the manual states it will sync down to 20MB/s narrow 8 bit mode. This is an ultra scsi-3 mode. Regular scsi-2 syncs at 5MB/a and fast scsi-2 syncs at 10MB/s. So unless you controller specifically states it is ultra scsi, it will never work with these drives. Sorry.

Assuming you've set the ID to something below 7 and have an external terminator installed, it should just work. I haven't done much stuff with modern drives on narrow SCSI. I know early SCSI 3 fast wide drives could usually connect to narrow SCSI, never tried it with a LVD drive (80/160/320) though. …

I've had some limited experience with UPSs. That Alcatel looks very much like a black APC one i've seen. Perhaps you can look for APC ones of the same wattage and see if its a rebrand. Very impressive. I once had 8 old PCs connected to a kvm made out of a serial switcher box. Had to wire my own cables. Thought that was nuts. I got 4 16port KVMs cheap a while back so have planned something like this before but not at this level.

I've got the rack version with the PII processor card. They are nice systems. Don't get the Compaq RAM with the wings on them, they wont fit.

It's been a while since i ran dual PCI cards. This was in an AGP 440BX system, with an AGP card too. Three head. IIRC, one of the PCI cards i tried insisted on being the primary, the other one and the AGP were secondary. I went to a dual setup because i wanted the AGP as primary.

In the early days of CD-Rs SCSI was better. My first IDE CD-R was terrible at eating CD-Rs. There are pluses and minuses. I would say this is doable. You wouldn't *need* to add SRAM as cache. I remember reading about 286 to 386sx adapters being made with just a few PALs. The interfaces are different but not too dissimilar.
