So I have now tried two known working Dallas replacements, as well as battery modding the original Dallas that I desoldered. Drat, you're right. Found a manual I'd not seen before, both specify that 4MB modules must be 9 chip types. I guess I'm stuck at 4 and 8 megs then! Andrew
