Re: The Roland CM-500 GS/LA Sound Module

Just to explain this, the reason this "bug" occurs is that 16-channel MIDI wasn't really a thing in 1988-1991, so Sierra composers put Adlib, PC Speaker and other conversions on 1 and 11-16, channels that the MT-32 doesn't have (2-10 only). So having those channels on means you hear duplicate and …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I got a bit burnt out on Lords of Xulima (played it waaaay too much over the weekend), so I'm taking a break from it for a while. I got a nice new mechanical keyboard for my DOS machine, so decided to spend some quality time with that: Spirit of Adventure This is basically Realms of Arkania 0. It …

Re: Most important games

Impossible Mission I played this on my uncle's C64 and immediately knew I had to get a C64 for myself. This is doubly important for me, because the C64 was my first computer (besides a hand me down Atari 800 XL I barely ever touched)... and also my introduction to computer role playing games (I had …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I had a lot of fun with this game. I played and beat it back between February and May of 2018, if you're interested in searching my comments on it. Thanks for mentioning this, I went back and found your posts. I agree 100% so far, though I'm still early into the game (maybe 10 hours or so). Did you …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Lords of Xulima I've had this in my Steam library for some time now, but finally decided to play it. I ended up getting quite addicted to it, and played it for 5-6 hours straight. It's been years since I've done that! The best way of describing this game is classic Might & Magic with an isometric …

Re: The Roland CM-500 GS/LA Sound Module

You can check CM-500 buy connecting it to the another computer with DosBox or ScamVM and test how games play MIDI. It also could be a bad capacistors in the sound module or card. I can't check this as mine CM-500 is still in delivery Thanks! I checked and it does the same thing with dosbox running …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Thanks for the review. Does it have an auto note-taking feature, or do you need to do so manually to remember things for later quests? That's one thing I don't miss about old games: manual mapping and note-taking. It doesn't have an auto-note taking feature unfortunately, but does have an auto-map.

Re: What game are you playing now?

Lurking: Immortui (PC) Finished! This is a really fantastic classic style CRPG, heavily inspired by Ultima III through V. The game allows for full party creation right from the start, and uses a character creation system based on skill points. Each character has a set of attributes (that mostly …

Re: The Roland CM-500 GS/LA Sound Module

I have a CM-500 but it seems to have a strange hanging note issue that is not caused by my MIDI interface (tried both an AWE32 and PCMIDI card—both my MT32 and SC55 work fine on both of these FYI). I notice it most often when I play Wing Commander 1, where if my ship gets damaged (causing a loud …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Lurking: Immortui (PC) I have really been getting into this one recently. It's an indie RPG you can find on itch.io for the price of "pay what you want." https://oklabsoft.itch.io/lurking Like Ultima, the game is all about exploring and gathering information. It uses a similar keyword-based …

Re: vintage open world games

Darklands is a prime example of an open-world RPG, and Betrayal at Krondor. Although most of the early RPG (ultima series, fallout series, magic candle/legacy of the ancients/etc. etc. ad nauseum) were very open-world to be honest. Seconded. The main appeal of Ultima (specifically 7 tho) was always …

Re: What game are you playing now?

After a couple months of just playing console RPGs (and the Dark Souls games), I am back to playing some a good old PC RPG: Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World (PC) I had completed the first game last year and then immediately transferred my party and began playing the second game. I made …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Whenever I finish a game, I will try a bunch of games for 15-20 minutes to decide what to play next. I keep doing this until I arrive at a couple of games, preferable one I can play in the living room (i.e. console game) and one I can play in the office (i.e. PC game). Having just completed Dark …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (PC) Finished! The first time I completed this (vanilla DS2 on PS3) I remember being annoyed with several areas and finding it to be a bit of a disappointment compared with DS1. However, I really enjoyed the game this time around... the changes and balance …

Re: What game are you playing now?

You know, I tried Pillars of Eternity 1, and the combat fell incredibly flat to me. I think it's a matter of taste. I vastly prefer the Gold Box/Infinity Engine, AD&D approach to party composition. You have your front line fighters that protect the squishy casters. And the casters, at the …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (PC) The Dark Souls addiction is real. After completing the first Dark Souls for the third time, I decided to resume a game in progress in DS2... and now I've spent 15 hours this week on this damned game lol. I've finished this once before (on PS3), though it …
