Re: What game are you playing now?

Hillsfar Completed the second quest for the fighter's guild. It's not an amazing game by any means, but I think it is also a bit underrated. If you go in thinking it will be an epic RPG comparable to other SSI games, you'd be disappointed... but as a collection of arcade minigames with a quest …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I played Sam & Max: Hit the Road a while back. Sam & Max: Hit the Road felt like an extended Day of the Tentacle but with better graphics, a more engaging story, a interface that feels broken sometimes and a mediocre ending. I first played Sam & Max with the hint book, but I gave up and used a …

Re: Adventure games for beginners

LSL is actually one of the most unforgiving, there are many ways to mess up and make the game unfinishable without realizing until later (likely after you've saved the game, meaning you have to restart if you didn't use a different save slot). It does have some dead-ends but the game is very short …

Re: Adventure games for beginners

It's an adventure/RPG hybrid, but have you tried Quest for Glory ? I'm horrible at adventure game logic/puzzles but I was able to complete QfG I without much issue. LOOM is basically the perfect beginner adventure game. Beautiful EGA graphics and adlib/MT32 music and the puzzles are very sensible. …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Betrayal at Krondor Okay, I'm about 4 hours in and it's starting to grow on me. I love the emphasis on story telling. The world is actually a lot bigger than it seems while traversing it. Here's the first section that I'm still in: http://mikesrpgcenter.com/krondor/maps/lamut.html The music is …

Re: What game are you playing now?

No problem clueless1! I'd suggest that maybe Menzo is just a better game, but I haven't played that one and people tend to rate the two Ravenloft games higher ( Stone Prophet , in particular, seems to be well-loved). I tried the first Eschalon game but had trouble getting into it as the mix of turn- …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Nice to read your thoughts on BaK and Ravenloft. I pretty much agree on all counts lol I really dislike the graphics engine in BaK. I know you can set it to automatically follow roads, but I never got comfortable with it. I would have preferred either step-based or free-moving, but not the weird …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Legends of Amberland Completed! All in all, the game took me 13 hours to explore the entire map, kill every enemy, and explore every dungeon, with my characters ending up around level 50. It was a fun time, and was a great way to relax between playing more demanding games. This is a party-based RPG …

Re: What game are you playing now?

My advice to get through pillars is to spend some time setting up the auto pause settings so that it mimics turn based, for example you can set it to pause automatically every time someone is able to take an action. I know that I eventually achieved a setup with auto pause that was somewhat …

Re: Crystal Caves HD!?

It's definitely an interesting game to choose for a remake, but I suspect their better known games are now owned by other companies. I actually do like the look of the remake... simply adding colors does actually make the game look quite attractive, and I definitely prefer this approach over …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Pool of Radiance PC Completed! The final area was a bit longer that I expected, but it was full of unique encounters and I was able to reach maximum level for all characters other than my fighter/thief. The final battle was surprisingly easy, partly because I saved all the powerful potions, etc. …

Re: Best game to test Roland LAPC-i

Wing Commander is a good test because it uses custom instruments and the game is speed dependent, so much can go wrong haha. Any Sierra game that uses the AGI SCI* engine and supports the MT-32 would be a great test also, as Sierra made extensive use of custom instruments. Space Quest III and Quest …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Pool of Radiance I finished exploring the wilderness, at least to the extent I intend to do so. It's quite massive and there seem to be random (?) events scattered about but at this point in the game the experience and gold I get through combat is pretty much worthless, so it's not really worth my …

Re: What game are you playing now?

It ended up not working. I initialized the SC-88 to CM-64 mode and the then launched the game in Roland mt-32 mode and it sounded terrible. I am thankful the ultimate talkie version features a GM mode. I hope some day the ultimate talkie for the sequel also does. I will have to play it in SB mode. …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I just played for the first time the Secret of Monkey Island and finished in one day. It was great! I played the ultimate talkie version using general midi via my sc-88. I noticed the 2nd game ultimate talkey does not have GM support, but I just learned today I can put the SC-88 into a "CM-64" mode …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Wing Commander Slowly making my way through this game whenever I feel like playing a mission or two. At first I thought I might just play it almost like a roguelike and just see how far I get without reloading, etc. However, although I do enjoy this game, I don't think I enjoy it enough to play …

Re: What game are you playing now?

-Might & Magic III won't play music when set to MT-32 and Sound Blaster. If I set it to MT-32 only, music works great but sound effects are sparse and poorly emulated by the MT-32. If I set to SB only, everything sounds good, music is still nice, just not as good as MT-32. edit: MM3 is also speed- …
