Based on those screenshots, you seem to be using DOS drivers v3.14. Try version 3.16 instead. You can download it from Phil's website . I am away for a couple of days but will be sure to try this when I get back. Outside of trying that, I wonder if it has to do with the variant of my yamaha …

So I booted using step by step confirmation and did not load into windows but stayed at the command prompt. From there, I ran the setupds utility to test the sounds again., and I am still only getting sb 8bit sound, no 16bit or fm.

My config.sys is blank. My autoexec.bat reads this "SET BLASTER =A220 I5 D1 T4". Also, I went back into setupds.exe, and I was only able to get soundblaster 8bit sound, missing both 16bit and fm sound.

Well, I checked my PCG-XG29 which is a Pentium III with the same YMF-744 chip and I have it being initialized in DOS before it boots to Windows 98SE. The 2019 VXD drivers are installed in Windows. For the C1VN laptop, it came with Windows 2000 and I haven't replaced the drive or put Windows 98SE on …

That's interesting they used a totally different sound chip for what I thought was only a minor revision. I would imagine that trying out the C1VN wouldn't hurt as it is indeed the same sound chip.

I went ahead and reinstalled windows, then I installed the chipset driver followed by the secuirty update cd. Afterwards, I installed the aopen driver again, and this time the drivers installed successfully. However, I am still not getting audio output at all. Interestingly, there is no IRQ setup …

Hey Joseph, I could not access the drivers from the second link you posted. Also, cyclone have you had any trouble with phil's drivers before? Do you use any other ones for your ymf cards? I should also say that my chipset is 440mx if that makes a difference.

Hmmm.. have you tried initializing it in DOS (autoexec.bat) before booting into Windows. I don't remember if I have ever tried the Windows drivers without first initializing in DOS first. To initialize, you will need to run Setupds /S Then you can run Setupds to configure the card and save the …
