Re: Amstrad Mega PC

One of the reasons I wanted the ISA-CF card is that it has allowed me to boot from the original 40Mb hard drive and then copy off all the original drive contents from the early 90s in one go (Counterpoint etc exactly as it was left set up). I'd not been able to get the hard drive and my IDE-CF card …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Two further quick questions directly related to the Mega-PC: 2) Out of curiosity, how do those of you with a Mega-PC transfer files to it since there's no space for a CDROM drive? One floppy at a time? Some sort of serial link? Like Keropi I tend to use a network adapter - although I do regularly …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Nobody I know has the proper installation media for AMstart (which presumably came on the same disks as Win 3.x when shipped by Amstrad, as I know they did this with Win 2.x that I *do* have floppy images of; see my blog above) but somebody did share their backup floppies here which contains the …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

I am pretty sure Banjo is referring to the "Amstrad Desktop" that gui (if it can be called that since it's just date/time/launcher for counterpoint and user guide for the system) https://i.imgur.com/tCqixXG.png https://www.mediafire.com/file/1e3s1eld5we55te/megapc-dos-software.rar/file I luckily …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Ok, I uploaded the three Manuals to Google Drive Here.. Just wanted to say a HUGE thanks for posting those manuals. I just bought an Amstrad PC7486SLC33 (would love a Mega-PC but the chances of that in Australia are slim, I know!) and these will really come in handy. I see you have the ADT desktop …

Re: PC games on consoles

in Milliways
Duke Nukem 3D on the Mega drive (published in Brazil in 1998, rest of world in 2015. ) was perhaps one of the more unusual ports 😁 https://dukenukem.fandom.com/wiki/Duke_ ... a_Genesis)

Re: Amstrad MegaPC - Hopeful Resto Build

Welcome to the club from me too! Aside from checking the cable (and it's properly connected) as keropi suggested which is usual source of problems, the only things I can suggest are: 1) ensure that the mega drive card is properly seated into the cartridge/front plate pcb connector (and the connector …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

I could scan all these manuals if you'd like to read them? If anyone else would like them too?... Yes Please ! Glad you got it back safely and the HDD is all ok, fingers crossed your repairs will get the FDD back working. Very interesting about the 7486 Cache utility - hopefully someone out there …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

@keropi.. how does Doom fare on the 486 in comparison?... just wondering if it would take advantage of the cache in any way.. it's crap man LOL it behaves just like it on a 386DX40 system , pretty unplayable and you have to use low detail mode... I can bench later if you are interested in frames …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

I will post some mobo pics when I finalize the patch wire. Thansk to Dioxaz for sharing the info and files and Zalog for sending me a good cpu to test this!!!! :) Well Done 😃 and congratulations on getting it working 👍 - glad the MAB processor sorted things for you and got it running. It's …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

but to be clear CMS supports is as good as gone... so in the card there will be an OPL3 and the user will chose either to mod the sega card and use OPL3 full time or do not mod the sega card and opl2 will work along with opl3 (in this case opl3 will only "answer" to SB ports not adlib one) That …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

*about opl3 - there are 2 options that needs deciding and please anyone interested share your thoughts 1. do not use one and just have the amstrad's OPL2 + CMS chips essentially like having a SB2.0 2. do a very simple mod on the megadrive card (lift 1 pin and connect it with a solder blob to the …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

@phipscube The sticker is an old NOS one I found years ago for pennies - so not readily avaliable I'm afraid :( The dimesions of it do scale out to the amstrad logo in this sticker https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alter-Aufkleber-Doubledecker-Vom-Winde-zerzaust-AMSTRAD-FIDELITY/133039121497?hash= …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

My story has a little progress. I finally got my Auntie to drag my Mega PC out of her garage and pass to my step dad to check it out. She says the monitor has certainly been thrown away (by accident) along with some other old PC monitors and towers previosly used by my cousin about 2 years ago... …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

By the way, since you seem to own flash carts, there's a small homebrew scene for the Mega Drive/Genesis .. Project MD looks quite nice, for example. A few commercial games, like Pier Solar or Tanglewood were also made recently. Yes, have been supporting these projects - its nice to have original …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Some photo's from the testing... P8160250.JPG Myst via Win3.1 works ! - the CD ROM drive struggles during the startup video, but the game itself plays fine and looks good . This is certainly a result as my attempt with the old 5420 graphics chip found it was very difficult to play - now the only …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Will have a bit more to report at the end of the week as I've found a local PCB maintence firm who's going to do the graphics chip replacement for me - and I have a few upgrades in progress at the moment - until then I'll tantalise you all with the image of the NOS 5428 chip I managed to find for …
