MDFourier is an open source project, specifically for the purpose of empirically analysing and comparing sound hardware. http://junkerhq.net/MDFourier/ It's an excellent standard for carrying out this sort of true detailed comparison, and showing the results as defined data.

A Voodoo2 is worth it (or not worth it, POV-dependent) in the same way that a Gravis Ultrasound is. It's a niche product and so are the reasons for wanting one. Still perfectly valid.
