Re: VST Midi Driver Midi Mapper

I'm sorry, but I utterly fail to see the relevance of iOS and Android having really basic (and not very good) MIDI support. In case somehow I was unclear, I am not saying that ARM can't do MIDI -- that wouldn't make sense as MIDI is basically an interpretation thing much like BASIC or etc, so just …

Re: Two MIDI modules for two computers

Nope, I'm not thinking about building a MIDI rack. Last night I was searching and came across with an idea: Get one DB-15 to MIDI adapter (that has 2x MIDI) and then connect the adapter on the computer that I'd use, so I'd just need the adapter and two MIDI cables. Thanks for the advice!! The two …

Re: VST Midi Driver Midi Mapper

Again I want to emphasize: I'm not saying "panic now!" I'm saying "eventually this is just not going to work in a meaningful way for purposes like serious retro gaming. We should prepare in advance instead of waiting until after it happens." But, I'm really just saying it on principle anyway. I …

Re: Two MIDI modules for two computers

The cheapest and fastest is likely to just be having MIDI cables connected to both computers and then just plugging in a module you want to use. Unless you are building a MIDI rack there's no reason to go with something complex and expensive involving MIDI input selectors.

Re: MIDI volume wrappers?

in Milliways
Actually it can control MIDI volume with its per application configuration, but as I said, I would like to have the option to change the volume from inside the application. To what I have read, MIDI is a very complex thing to tame and it's just because of some very bright ideas that allowed the …

Re: Recommended VGA DAC? (re: DisplayPort to VGA)

(S)VGA itself (analogue RGB with separate H/V sync) has no concrete theoretical upper limit, AFAIU. 2048x1536 is likely a common limit imposed by the RAMDACs that are (were?) available either as discrete components or integrated into VGA controllers (or GPUs). I have no idea if CRT monitors …

Re: Recommended VGA DAC? (re: DisplayPort to VGA)

How is the HDfury X4? It’s listed at 225 MHz but only has an HDMI port. That has a scaler rather than just having a DAC going from digital to analog. I also could be wrong, but I believe VGA will top out at 2048x1536. Honestly, the cheap DP to VGA adapters offices use to get new computers working …

Re: MIDI volume wrappers?

Thanks for including what you are actually trying to do. DxWnd intercepts the CD calls and has its own CD player which was created to allow the proxying of audio files in place of actual CD playback. This allows the playback to happen in its own process and thus volume can be controlled separately. …

Are you using Windows 10/11? If so any reason you can't use the volume mixer? Right-click the systray speaker and choose open volume mixer. It should list all applications and you should be able to adjust Coolsoft's volume. Another option is just pressing windows+G which will open the game bar. One …

Re: Recommended VGA DAC? (re: DisplayPort to VGA)

Do you just want DisplayPort to VGA? The Sunix DPU3000 you mentioned was a triple display device that had DP, HDMI, and VGA output. Pretty much any DP to VGA adapter on the market handles up to 1080p 60hz. Maybe go with a $12-15 adapter versus the $7-8 if you are worried about the quality. But do …

Re: Setting up WinXP for more than gaming

Whatever you do, don't put it on the Internet unless it's hidden behind a NAT firewall. The Windows Update MiniTool has a version that is still supported on XP. It's a program that you can run rather than the standard Windows Update. It can download and install the latest patches for you. Just be …

Re: AWE64 + CM-300 problems...

I don't have a readily available Win3.11 install, but going off the ol' memory in the control panel there should be either a MIDI option, or it's limited under multimedia. One of the options should be the MIDI mapper which lets you choose the MIDI Output port to use. Do you see anything like that?

Re: AWE64 + CM-300 problems...

The red power light is on - but not blinking. I'll try some headphones and/or speakers directly. Thanks for the tip! The red power light will always just be lit up when it's power on. The amber light to the left will flash when it received it sees MIDI data. Since it's not flashing it's not seeing …

Re: AWE64 + CM-300 problems...

Does the audio light on the CM 300 blink at all? If there is MIDI activity should flash or at least be lit. Have you connected headphones or speakers directly to the CM 300 and see if there is audio coming out of it to rule out an issue with audio mixing on the AWE64?
