There were some unofficial patches for 3.16 or 3.14, to make it running on more chipsets..There was link to download page, where it was described somewhere in Vogons.. Hmm. links from 1# post are mostly dead, so try to use internet Wayback machine with them 2,3 years ago time period. Ver 3.17 did …

Re: Trouble with a YMF724E-V

After trying out more things I've just noticed a strange problem with the card. The card always defaults to IRQ7 and DMA1. I reserved all IRQs in the bios apart from IRQ5 but the card still uses IRQ7, same with DMA. Reserved all apart from DMA 0 but card uses DMA 1. This is with no other expansion …

Re: Trouble with a YMF724E-V

The fakes that I have seen look very minimalistic compared to what you have . Does Windows detect anything when the card is installed ? How were you able to retrieve the PCI ID ? So you think the card itself looks legitimate. Windows shows unknown device with a yellow ! mark. This is the same with …

Re: Difficult games to get working

Bart Simpson vs the space mutants On a 386, 486 or Pentium, speed doesn't matter, nor dos config or vga card type. Runs up to the copy protection screen, enter code and it black screens and freezes the pc. This is nothing to do with the copy protection because even the wrong code should take you to …

Trouble with a YMF724E-V

I bought an old PC midi tower that contained a PCI YMF724E-V soundcard. Trouble is I can't get the card detected in Win98 or WinMe. download/file.php?mode=view&id=98681 Does this card look like a fake chinese model

Speedsys Wipes Ramdisk (xmsdsk)

Speedsys seems to be used a lot around here to benchmarks older systems. I started using it recently and noticed it wipes out and corrupts the contents of a ramdrive created with the popular Xmsdsk. Create a ramdrive, doesn't matter what size or options you use. Copy any files to it or however you …

Re: "Bart Vs the Space Mutants" problem

in DOS
I've been trying to get this game working, running an original version. It runs from both floppy or HD but then blank screen after typing in the page number for copy protection. It works in dosbox. First game I have that doesn't work on a 486 simply caused the presence of a ISA Sb16. Running with a …

Re: DOS UDMA

I have a number of motherboards with a UDMA or ATA selections available in the BIOS and it has an affects DOS performance. Is that what you guys are talking about? No, on every other motherboard I have used, changing the UDMA settings in the Bios has made no difference. In real mode dos without …

Re: Missing conventional memory

I have loaded the bios defaults, no change. Also reflashed every version of the bios available, from oldest to newest. I have turned off everything in the BIOS, even the floppy. No mention of 8kb or memory regions. I guess it's just a bit maddening not having the full 640kb. Would be good to know …

Re: Missing conventional memory

The board has a slot for cache RAM, right? Is there anything in that slot? The coast slot is empty. My revision of the board has the coast slot but also 2x 128KB pipeline burst cache chips soldered to the motherboard. This picture is the same rev GA-586ATS as my board: https://i.ebayimg.com/images …

Re: Missing conventional memory

Hmm, this is strange and I am running out of ideas . Are you running BIOS version 1.32 www.gigabyte.com/au/Motherboard/GA-586ATS/support#support-dl ? Have tried resetting to default in BIOS setup ? The only other thing that I can think of is that your video card's BIOS is using 8KB of RAM below the …

Re: Missing conventional memory

Thank you for the info. 2 questions: a) Do you have an ISA or PCI disk controller in that machine ? b) If you create a bootable floppy, copy mem.exe to it and boot from it, do you get the same results? My guess is that you either have a disk overlay you don't know about, a bootsector virus or some …
