Shouldn´t it be possible to use 4M x 4 chips for parity as well and just leave data lines 1 - 3 unused, maybe with a 10K pullup resistor? Seems like only data line 0 (pin2) is connected on your pcb and 1 - 3 (pins 3, 22, 23) are not. You would then have 4M x 4 /8= 2MB, 2M / 4 = 512KB for parity.

Seems you´re not alone, here are reports that the sticks won´t work in 386 boards without the 3rd chip (parity) populated, _unless_ your mainboard provides a jumper for disabling parity. https://dosreloaded.de/forum/thread/5088-self … ories/?pageNo=2

You can upgrade it for 2MB cache with 2 chips 128K x 64. You will also have to replace the TAG chip with a 64K x 8 one. If you´re going for 1MB (just add a second 64K x 64 chip), you don´t need to upgrade TAG-RAM, just leave it at 32K x 8. In either case there will be some adjustment necessary by …

Yes, if by "mixed" you mean connected among each other. Make sure your soldering iron is "strong" enough, 30 Watts or more. Then solder the yellow and the nearest 2 red vias together. All the tiny vias on that plane are connected to + (-> right leg of the inductor), except for the electrolytic´s minus leg. Cutting the bent legs will not do. You need to pull them straight upright, while the solder is liquid.

Besides that, especially when you cannot 100% avoid damaging the solder mask during the replacement process, you should never ever bend wires sidewards before soldering. You risk unwanted shorts otherwise.

The late ALi chipset revisions made the northbridge´s on-chip TAG-RAM usable, but you would still need the cache chip(s).

I have seen a cacheless PA-503+ on Ebay before (with better pics). I think it was, like kingcake said, a cheapo version.
