Re: Creative Labs crippling drivers on Vista

eL_PuSHeR wrote: Creative sucks. Period. It has always sucked and it will always suck. I agree the company and it's practices suck. But it can make decent hardware from time to time. I still use my SB Live! card and I love it. It's been the most stable card under Linux that I've tested.

I'm never surprised by this behavior anymore. Creative has too many PHBs that tell the developers to cripple older cards so the newer cards will sell better. All they really end up doing is ticking off loyal customers, and cause them to switch to some other brand.

Re: DOSBox with a Really Fast Processor

3dfx emulation would also need PCI bus emulation which won't happen anytime soon. Also, there are no plans to make Windows 95 working stable because it is not DOSBox goal to emulate windows 95. I figured that would be the answer for the time being. Let a guy have his dreams. If there is any emu …

Re: DOSBox with a Really Fast Processor

You'll never see DosBox with an emulated 3DFX card. Only via passthru with a wrapper as it's done currently. MAME has had emulated 3dfx for years now. Granted it is done purely in software. Still, to me it proves that it is not beyond the realm of possibility since that source is out there. Just …

Not true. I used to believe that myself, until I saw this article . PCs still trump consoles in game sales by a VERY significant margin. Look at the top selling games on the PC. World of Warcraft, The Sims. Not exactly the market for hardcore gamers anymore. IMO, the PC has gone to the casual …

I tried the VMWare Fusion beta on MacOS. It worked, but the performance was horrible. That and many things like bump mapping did not work. From what I hear, most if this is due to the opengl provided in OSX not being very complete.

Re: CPU load reduction for Windows 3.1

auto is a crude estimate in order to reduce the amount of question and cycle configuration neccisities. Offcourse it will be off for some games., but for most games it gets the job done. Thanks Qbix. I don't want to knock the effort that went into auto. It works pretty dang slick for the most part. …

Re: CPU load reduction for Windows 3.1

If you think that then do that by setting cycles=max for the game. Obviously! I could just create a batch file for every one of my dos games that sets the cycles to the appropriate level. You, my friend, are about as useful as talking to a brick wall. If you don't have anything useful to say, then …

Re: CPU load reduction for Windows 3.1

But, UW really should go to max, that game needs some good horsepower to play. Anyway, did a google on DOSidle, found a copy of that here http://vmware0.tripod.com/index.htm . DOSidle works perfect. Under cycles=max, cpu load drops to 0% sitting at the dos prompt.
