Re: Sierra w/ MT-32

No, DOSbox 0.63 does not emulate the MT-32. It currently emulates MPU-401, the MIDI interface used by the MT-32. Not the MT-32 itself. If you try to use MT-32 games over the MPU-401 interface in 0.63 you are accessing the Windows General MIDI device. Since the instruments map differently between MT- …

Re: Sierra w/ MT-32

In all Sierra games you'll know it is using the MT-32 when on it's LCD you see some message from the game. For example in Space Quest III you'll see the message "Insert Buckazoid" on the LCD when the game first loads. If you don't see that, make sure the game is set to MT-32 and not General MIDI. …

Re: Sierra w/ MT-32

Well most games supported both the MT-32 and the Sound Blaster so you would get digitized sound effects and then MT-32 for music. Only the 16 color Sierra games and older would do MT-32 by itself. Even then, the MT-32 does do more than just instuments. The default set of timbres has some misc sounds …

Re: Introducing...

It's due for an update, my schedule is to post something about once a month if possible. Though I update the game db fairly regularly. On the search page of the db, you can search by last modified date to see what was changed or added recently.

Re: [ANN]: DOS/32A v7.33 is out

Green flying pigs in delta formation emmigrating to the south, reduction of universal matter into poly-singularity due to permatutional permutation, and generally the end of the world are the suggested symptoms. Beyond that there are no known bugs at this time. Sounds like something from the …

Re: Where to find good DOS game icons.

in Milliways
Bah, never mind. I've just been making my own icons. Not too hard actually, I usually just edit a screenshot in Gimp, cut out the main character or a game logo and scale that down to 32x32 16 colors. Then clean it up pixel by pixel. If anyone needs some icons, I'll probably put them up on my website …

Re: Laura Bow 1 in XP

in DOS
Depends on how this was packaged. Most sierra games you can just dump the contents of the CD or floppies to a dir on your hard drive, then just run the install.exe from there to setup your sound. If the install.exe is busted, its still easy to simply edit the resource.cfg in a text editor and change …

Re: Sierra w/ MT-32

Yeah I beat it but that was ages ago and not under DOSbox. I remember most of the game without a walkthrough. Sure, I'll see if that "Oops! You did something we didn't think of" error entering the wedding chapel after the disco happens as well.

Re: Sierra w/ MT-32

Ok, I tested this out on my Larry 1 VGA remake. Mine is setup to use the MT-32 with Sound Blaster from the install program. I checked the version from the in game control panel its ver 2.1 (click the sierra logo). Nope, did not crash for me. It does not use Adlib for the glub glub sound, it is a …

Re: Sierra w/ MT-32

Note, MT-32 WAS the best sound of it's day. It does not really compare to modern digital soundtracks you find in games now. Compared to the adlib though, it is fairly obvious which sounds better. The only reason the games don't support both FM synth and MT-32 at the same time is because the …

Re: newb needs help with resolution

All those old games are only 320x200 so they are not very high. If you have a large monitor they tend to look pretty bad when run full screen. Lukily DOSbox has some graphic filters to help boost things up a bit. You need to do a little config file editing here. * Look for the dosbox.conf in the …
