With a decent PCI sound card (ESS, ALS, maybe even Aureal or Yamaha too?) it will serve in DOS even without an ISA slot, as long, as it has drivers for DOS.

What driver version are you using? It won't ever perform wonderfully in 3D but it would be nice if it could perform to it's full potential anyway. If you mean driver number, it should be this. It doesn't make sense to me to use this modified driver (designed to run the GeForce 7,8,9xxx series on the W98) for the GeForce 6xxx series. Latest official drivers from nVidia 81.90 work for this.
