I don't know if some types include the traces. the mostly used .brd files for apple products are only the layout, pins & connections. and I never looked into how one actually makes one …

figure out which power rail is shorted. +12v, +5v, -5v, -12v or PG if it's the +-12v or -5v rail, it's going to be a capacitor. if it's the 5v rail, it's likely a capacitor but it can also be one of the ICs. under linux dd if= of=.img You can use osfmount in windows to add, remove or list files in the image. linux should also work though given the partition table in the image, I don't know how.
