Windows 98se turned into Me

So I was going to install my network card driver but the installation said my OS was not supported. I went into the system properties and lo and behold it it's true! IMG_20210421_195009.jpg I was mocking about with different Nvidia drivers the other day and maybe something happened.. Or it might be …

Re: Determining how much to spend on this hobby

I can relate to the "getting a good deal nonetheless"-feeling when clicking buy on something you really don't need. You can make good purchases but it is not "worth it" if you are not willing to sell the parts. Then it is just a time consumer, which is ok, but I only have so much time (and space).

I mostly go for good deals, even though I might have spent a little too much for an old k6-2+ the other day. But if you really want one I don't see the difference from buying a nice bottle of wine or something. When it comes to parts will eventually break, personally I'm mostly worried about CRTs, …

kings quest VI

in Windows
Hey So I was firing up Kings Quest 6 in windows 98 and realised it was not stable in 800x600 without a patch from sierrahelp.com.After installing it the game no longer crashed after running the welcome screen, splendid! Less splendit was the fact that the background is totally black. This, I fixed …

Re: Running Nox on retro machine

So I did some more digging and saw that you can run either Nox.exe (very small exe) or game.exe (large exe). Nox.exe gives me about the same performance as running with the sound blaster turned off. According to some forum post I read it seems to be the other way around sometimes, maybe for newer …

Re: Running Nox on retro machine

I disabled my sound card, and the permformance increase was enormous. I could run the game in 800x600 with the highest setting and still get roughly the same performance than I did with sound on. I am not sure if this is normal or if my Sound Blaster 16 Pnp (ISA) is crap or if it just needs new …

Re: Running Nox on retro machine

It is probably a cpu intensive game as there is no 3d acceleration going on. It might also run better on a Pentium than AMD but I have no way to invesitgate. Changed it to 8 bit mode and get maybe 20 fps. Kind of playable.

Running Nox on retro machine

in Windows
Hi One of the games from my childhood that I remember was Nox. I saw it on gog.com for 4-5 bucks so I bought it. I installed it on my Surface pro (windows 10). I saw that Phil had some guide describing how to get gog-games to work but I just went ahead and copied all the game files to my windows 98 …

Re: Looking for an old computer game

The game is freeware; the original DOS version is available here , and there's a free Windows port too . Yeah I found the DOS version, thanks. Sound is not working in windows 98SE even though settings are ok and I fooled the game into thinking it is in DOS. I'm still waiting for some adapters to …
