Yeah I did that. Thing is that the noise starts as soon as I power on the system. I can hear static from when the fan powers on, hdd, floppy searches etc. Something is not grounded correctly I guess.

Yeah this is what I ened up doing. Id be quite happy with windows 95 but because of lack of wireless or LAN I want to use nusb (hack) and it only runs in 98 as I understand it.

Maybe a ThinkPad, the T42 should be the last to support windows 98. IT runs a Pentium m which is kind of cool. Its Also the last thinkpad made by IBM. I have never owned one though and can't speak if it's gaming capabilities, should be a lot of YouTube videos of it as it seems common.

Nice I like SD2ide too but I believe it is maybe too slow for my taste for desktop computers. I use it in my SS7 rig. Its handy to change OS by switching cards and they are dirt cheap. For laptops it's probably fine. Not sure why I didn't consider it for my armada.

I can't remember what you CPU fan is called, did you have to do modifications to fit it? I see them for sale regularly and they look awesome in comparison to the stock one I use on my CT -479. This is one of the big complains about the CT-479, that it is hard to fit normal CPU fans.
