Welcome to the consumer machine. Soon you won't even be able to buy hardware, you'll just pay a monthly fee to use it for a while. I'll be in my cabin in the woods using my Apple IIe if anyone needs me.

Follow up/secondary question. If you have an xtide card, do all ide devices have to be connected to it or will the motherboard ide also still work?

Checked the base address of the network card, it’s at 340, and irq 10. That should not be interfering with the sound card (address 530, irq 5) so I’m at a loss.

Well I seem to have gotten farther with these than any of the other drivers. However now windows 3.11 hangs when trying to start the network. Starting with network disabled gets me in but still no sound. Makes it seem like maybe there is some kind of conflict with the network card driver. It’s not …

This might seem like a silly question but…does your regular bios still run when you use something like xub? If not, how do all the peculiar machine settings get set (since many bioses have settings for that particular machine that other machines don’t have)?

Swapped them around with no effect. Network card still worked fine and the sound card still wasn’t recognized. Dang.

Another person with one of these computers told me that the riser on his had slots that have become non functional so the next thing I’m going to try is swapping my network card into this slot to make sure it’s good, and/or swapping the sound card to another slot.

Anybody ever come across a copy of a file called “mwave_midimed.zip”? It’s stated to be mwave dolphin drivers for win3.1 but I can’t find an actual copy of it…

Well that didn't work either. Is there a way to get Win3.1 to report what IO base address/interrupt/etc it's using for the sound card?

Apparently mmsound.drv is straight off the Windows 3.11 install disk. So now I'm really confused. Maybe I should try reinstalling Windows 3.11.

In digging through the config files of the system where the card works, I notice that in SYSTEM.INI, the line "sound.drv=sndsys.drv" is commented out, and there's another line "sound.drv=mmsound.drv" so maybe it's not even using the Compaq Business Audio settings (IO 530) and instead has the real …
