Re: Mac games on ScummVM?

I have a Mac version of Full throttle, but the audio stutters badly in Basilisk II. It is unplayable as is. I have heard that ScummVM can play Mac LucasArts games in Windows if you have a driver installed that will let Windows see a Mac formated CD. Does anyone know of such a driver?

Re: Quest for Glory I (VGA)

The "Unable to initialize your audio hardware" error message is a common error with the DOS Sierra SCI games on modern fast machines. You can use one of the updated Sierra Sound Blaster drivers from Sierra's FTP or try the GOSiERRA patch. You can find it on Quest Studios utilities page: http://www. …

Re: Weekly update

Now, it would mean better multitasking... ie. the driver executes on one processor while the game and/or emulator execute on the other. That should not require any changes to the driver or emulator. Of course you are right, so maybe somewhere on the dirver's property sheet there could be a place to …

Re: KQ5 Speech/audio

in Windows
When you try to run the game just by setting the resolution down with the compatability mode settings, you still get the wrong display type error. It will run if you manually set the resolution down first. I run the game with a bat file instead of a Windows shortcut and use the compatability mode to …

SMP and the MT-32 driver

I was wondering if your driver could be made SMP aware and take advantage of a second CPU. I do not know how much work this would be. Maybe not enough people have duel systems to make it worth while, but there are now the P4s with Hyperthreading that can benefit from SMP aware apps. Creative Labs …

Re: KQ5 Speech/audio

in Windows
Many have trouble with the audio of KQ5 DOS on XP, even with VDMSound and the GoSierra patch or the updated Audblaster.drv file from Sierra's FTP. If you have the Win version of KQ5, it is easy to get going on XP. You just have to set your screen resolution to 640x480x256 BEFORE you launch the game. …

Re: KQ5-7 + xp

in Windows
I have KQ5 on CD alone and both collections. The stand alone version has both Win and DOS as does the ones on both collections.

King's Quest

in Windows
See http://community.vugames.com/WebX?14@13.Z9jRc … dhaR.3@.efeacbb for help on these games. Have you tried the Windows version of 7? The one on that collection is version 2, which should run with out problems on XP, earlier versions will only give an error message.

Re: KQ5-7 + xp

in Windows
There was the original floppy version of KQ5, which was DOS only. It was re-released on CD as a talkie with both a Win and DOS engine. They also dumped the copyright protection for the CD version. One thing that I have noticed with the Sierra Win SCI engines is that they use both WOW (the NT 16 bit …

Re: KQ5-7 + xp

in Windows
KQ5 is the easiest to get going, you just have to set your display settings to 640x480 and 256 colors BEFORE you start the game as setting the compatibility mode does not change it before the game checks your display. This can be done in the advanced display settings, but you will have to set it …

Re: Star Trek: A Final Unity on Windows XP

in DOS
Have you run "SETUP.EXE" with VDMSound w/ low level CD-ROM support (not just with "STTNG.EXE")? Make sure the INI file points to your CD-ROM drive, should be a "CD=" line in it. This one has given me problems too, not just choppy sound, but with video too. If I have the movies enabled, the movies …

Re: Quest for Glory 5

What graphics card do you have? QfG5 will not run on my box with a Matrox card in XP or 98, but on another box with an ATI card it runs both XP and 98 with no problems.

Re: Problem with XP + King's Quest 6

VDMSound is for DOS GAMES ONLY . Of course it won't work with the Windows interpreter!! But it does. I know VDMSound is meant for only for DOS, but I've been trying to get the windows version to work for a while (the Win version has features that the DOS one does not, such as high rez talk boxes) …

Re: Problem with XP + King's Quest 6

in Windows
I finally got the Win version of King's Quest VI to run under Windows XP, but it hangs on the logo avi and the into movie. I copied all the game files to my hard drive without "Hdlogo.avi" or "Toon.avi" even the 335 mb "RESOURCE.AUD" in my KQ6 directory and modified the "win\sierra.ini" file to …
