Re: Can't Remove VIA/S3G Unicrome IGP Driver

in Windows
I've got a VIA CLE266-based system which had a similar issue when I installed a dedicated graphics card. If you want to disable the integrated graphics, press F8 during boot (after the initial BIOS screen but before the Windows 98 logo appears), select Safe Mode and let it boot into Windows. Then, …

Re: Whats the most rare piece of hardware you own?

The Gainward Dragon was the first 3dfx card I ever owned in 1998. Mindblowing at the time! I'm hopeful it's still buried in my parents' attic somewhere. I was lucky enough to find an almost new-in-box one a few years ago for a very reasonable price. The box is branded differently as "2theMax VGA" …

@sfryers I have that exact Gainward Dragon 3000 V2 12MB in my Dell Optiplex GX1. Paired with the onboard Rage Pro Turbo, it seems to do wonders. The Gainward Dragon was the first 3dfx card I ever owned in 1998. Mindblowing at the time! I'm hopeful it's still buried in my parents' attic somewhere. I …

Re: Hardware you wish you'd never bought.

When my just-out-of warranty Geforce Ti4400 started artifacting in what must have been early 2004, I thought I'd 'upgrade' to the next generation and replaced it with an FX5700LE. That was a major disappointment, but at least it was fairly cheap. I put up with it for maybe a year, then bought a …

Mine would almost certainly be the Yamaha PLG150-DX plug-in expansion board for various late '90s and early 2000s XG MIDI devices. It adds a fully-programmable 6-operator FM synthesiser- essentially a Yamaha DX7/TX7 on a card with the benefit of hundreds of presets and XG effects integration. PLG150 …

Re: Voodoo2 SLI, Visible scanlines?

Hmm, I found a post suggesting that this could be down to the framebuffer on each card being synchronised to a different RAMDAC clock, even though only one RAMDAC is used for video output in SLI- Re: 3Dfx Voodoo 2 PCB SLI Bridge / SLI Cable All part of the charm of SLI, I guess!

Re: Voodoo2 SLI, Visible scanlines?

If you have VSync disabled, the two cards will be rendering different frames some of the time. This makes the interleaved alternate scanlines very apparent, particularly in scenes with lots of horizontal motion. For best image quality, have VSync enabled when using SLI. You generally only want to …

Re: MUNT and Windows 98, questions about it all

Yes, the MT-32 is a MIDI-controlled external sound module. The controlling computer simply sends a series of simple digital instructions over the MIDI connection, which tell the MT-32 which sounds to use, and when to start and stop playing each note. The MT-32 interprets the MIDI instructions and …

Re: How did I do?

It *could* be the cache on the PIII SL4MB and SL52P chips in the motherboard. (BTW, if I am to use only one PIII for testing purposes I understand I need to put a terminator in the unused 370 socket, is that right? I do not own one of these) I'd suggest either trying to find a S370 terminator for …
