Re: NINA - AOL Desktop and AIM revival

This sounds like an exciting project because a huge part of my old internet nostalgia is ICQ (and later AIM) and the chat rooms in each. Many, many hours spent chatting before cell phone texting was really a thing. I still know my ICQ number and AIM username, though I likely wouldn't remember the …

Chex Quest! For those unfamiliar, it's basically a "family friendly" port of DOOM that was given away as a promotion for Chex cereal. I had Chex Quest 1 and 2 when I was a kid. I can't remember if they were included in the box of cereal or if we had to send away for it in the mail. At first, we …

Well a small update to the conversation: I reinstalled the graphics drivers for my x800 and now the framerates in UT ride the 85 FPS limit all day. That did make gameplay noticeably smoother. Maybe once I work out some of these technical issues, I can focus on becoming a better player. All the good …

Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

So I went to the local E-Waste recycling business to see what sort of old machines they would be willing to sell whole. They had probably 100 beige computers to choose from , most being old Compaq and Gateway and a few custom ones. Wait, what now? 100 beige computers? Where in the world does so …

Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

The ps2rate utility might help a bit with mouse responsiveness. However, I tried to join an online game with my win98 machine a while back, and it insisted on downloading new assets, which took forever, and then some kind of anti-cheat library, which took even longer. That library then proceeded to …

Lots of great replies here. First of all, that YouTube video was very informative. I am definitely experiencing a skills gap there which feels like a huge barrier to enjoyable play. I do not have the time or desire to practice all day or game all day. I have my fill after an hour or two per week. …

Yeah, it's crazy! I was actually very fortunate to join a server last night at just the right time when none of those experts were playing. Everyone was way more evenly matched and it was actually fun instead of a slaughter fest with 1-2 players dominating by 100+ points. Had a couple good rounds …

When did Unreal Tournament multiplayer get so "difficult"?

So yesterday I finally decided to connect one of my Windows XP PCs to the internet and find a UT99 server to join. Please help me understand a few things about this experience. I used to play UT at LAN parties back in 03-06, and also occasionally played online during that time once I got a DSL …
