Then it's probably a black block RTC - difficult to replace if not socketed... Maybe it had an external battery too which is now missing. But make a photo of the board so we can see.

It spreads as a thin film across the board and eats the copper traces and other metal parts. The software in the BIOS is either intact or not. If the latter it will either just crash or fail it's checksum check which would result in beeps. http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm

Isn't it obvious that this kind of problem can kill the board? :dead: Never connect a board with this kind of issue to power, the power supply may very well not have started because of the short. Yes bend it back, and have a look at the contact next to it that seems empty as it probably has been …

Usually it's written in the description what mains supply voltages it will take. So if that says 220-240V 50Hz and UK has 240V 50Hz then it's possible.

It would do about nothing if the BIOS software was damaged. As it said 'CMOS checksum error' it can't have a valid password. Maybe it has to do with the 'furred' jumpers...

If you can only see COM2 and no COM1 then you shouldn't plug the mouse into COM1. Maybe your COM2 even belongs to an internal modem. Maybe have a look at the bios setup.

I could use a paperclip or something similar to link the green and black cable ends together. Shall I try that? (Just to see if I get any power at all.) You can try that to exclude the switch being the problem. Did you disconnect the drives in the case? It might cause probelms if a drive gets power …

There is a not too complicated cirquit that makes -5V from -12V. Two capacitors and a 7905 voltage regulator. The power supply should power up also if there is no -5V. Could you make a close up photo of the connector block from both sides?
