Can't remember what the model numbers were for my SB PCI128. I liked that it could do EAX and 4-speaker positional sound, but its DOS support and wavetable MIDI were pretty awful.

Creative has a few old cards like this with hard to find drivers because they couldn't be bothered to put together an all inclusive package for every card revision. ...which in turn is because most of those cards are simply relabeled cards made by companies that Creative bought out, with re-branded …

The official version of DOSBox does not support printers of any kind. NET USE is a Win2K/XP specific command and is not supported by any version of DOS or Win9x as far as I know. You might have luck if Win7 still lets you map printers to virtual LPT ports, and then use an unofficial build of DOSBox …

Almost looks like some kind of interleaving or endianness issue going on inside of DOSBox. I see that there are characters such as ` and @ that are in the corrupted screenshot but not in the uncorrupted one.

Yes I do render some midis into flac and/or mp3. But you can never stop playing with soundfonts when you got gigs to choose from. There are some commercial ones I have yet to try out but would love to if I had cash on me at the moment. I find it really hard to believe that a given MIDI can sound …

Why use Windows 3.1 instead of Win9x? I ran Windows 95 on a 486DX4-120 with a VLB video card back in the day and it ran great.

The long install time was probably because you were running DOSBox at the default settings, which are tuned for floppy disk-era games and may be a bit slow for CD-ROM era games. When trying to run the game, make sure you mount both the CD image and hard drive folder in the same exact way that you …

No way that DOSBox will be usable on a 200MHz machine. It wasn't usable on a PIII-550 when I first tried it.

Wow, yeah, no point in trying to do a Pentium OD without something better than ISA for video. I had an AMD 486DX4-120 with a VLB video card and it still couldn't run Dink Smallwood or much of anything newer than Quake 1.

Are there multiple jacks on the back? If you're using headphones you may want to see if one of the jacks is a pre-amplified output. Also, what does the Win98 mixer show for volume and mute status for the different things?

Do any of them support host hardware-accelerated 3D with Win9x as the guest OS? I've been running old Win9x games on Linux via Wine, but it might be less quirky to run a full emulator/VM.
