I don't think you can even set Win7 to 256-color (8-bit color) mode anyways without using some obscure tricks. You should expect to have problems :p

Sounds like you have cycles=auto or cycles=max and it's causing DOSBox to use as many cycles as possible. Try opening your dosbox config and changing the cycles= setting to something like cycles=3000 then adjust from there. ripa's post explains the same thing, and everyone keeps ignoring it 🙁

Yeah, some DOS games default to IRQ 5 for Sound Blaster, while others default to 7. DOSBox emulates a Sound Blaster on IRQ 7, so you'll want to make sure the game's setup program is set to use that.
