Re: What DOS game are you playing right now?

in Milliways
I haven't started re-playing SQ3 because it deserves being played on my real MT-32 that I can't use right now.. You're right! SQ3 is a must play with MT-32! The humming of the engine of the spaceship warming up, the planetary landing sounds, the reverb when roger wilco falls at the edge off the …

Re: Rayman on Windows 98 Computer, no CD Music

Do you have a cable going between your CD-ROM drive and your soundcard for CD audio? It should look like this: http://service.pcconnection.com/images/inhouse/5351619.jpg Some PCI sound cards (and all modern computers) didn't need that when running in Windows because they could stream the CD audio …

Also, I finally strayed from Albion (again) although I made it much farther this time than any other time I've played. I'm still in the first jungle area because I was grinding monsters to sell their parts for gold. I've been playing through Bethesda's Terminator: Future Shock. I have Skynet but am …

Re-playing Space Quest Series. Currently playing SQ2 - Vohaul's Revenge. Edit: Just completed Vohaul's Revenge. Have to take a break from another adventure for a while. Almost burnt my brain out! (Err...actually I used the UHS to help me at two places - the tying of rope to the log part and another …

Re: Emulate PC Speaker with Soundcard

I think that Metal Mutant by Silmarils also uses the same tricks as Wizardry 7 to try to use the OPL chip as a DAC. Since Metal Mutant doesn't let you choose your sound card, you probably have to disable SB emulation to force it to use PC speaker sound. I haven't tried playing it in DOSBox for a …

Re: diasble mouse

Makes me wonder though if it's possible to disable emulation of the mouse at the emulated hardware level, so that games that try to detect a mouse would not see one. I guess you could always boot FreeDOS and not install a mouse driver?

Re: Floppy

Try removing the "mount A A:\ -t floppy" command from your dosbox .conf file. Then, when you need to actually use a floppy, type in the "mount A A:\ -t floppy" command manually at the DOSBox DOS prompt. Also: When you are done using the floppy, it is a good idea to type "mount -u A" to make DOSBox …

Re: Fullscreen messes with colors

This is a widespread Vista/Win7 issue. Other ways to fix it: - use output=opengl or openglnb instead of surface or ddraw (my preferred method, since it's the most painless) - kill all instances of explorer.exe in the task manager before launching the game (necessary for old 256-color windows games …

Re: confused about cycles

Yeah, don't get me wrong: the dynamic core is quite stable and fast. If you need a lot of cycles then it's definitely worth trying (I usually try core=dynamic for anything that needs more than 8-10K cycles on core=normal). Note that you can change the core type and cycle count at the DOSBox command …

Sune Salminen wrote: Run a recording app (Audacity for example) in Windows and then trigger all the sounds in miniVMac one by one. I guess that would be better than nothing, but it might get heavily resampled that way.
