Re: Pc speaker and sound blaster 16 bug

Actually this is a long-standing issue. I believe what is happening is that the games are trying to use the OPL synthesizer chip as a 1-bit DAC similar to the PC Speaker. However, this is very timing intensive and DOSBox does not handle it accurately enough. It works for PC Speaker because DOSBox …

Re: No DirectSound3D for Vista

Dang, Creative has had OPENAL support for a long time now. WTF are these other sound card companies doing? (I guess being lazy.) Actually, Creative is being extremely sluggish (as usual) in implementing Vista drivers as well. By contrast, a lot of the other companies like Realtek are marching along …

Re: No DirectSound3D for Vista

Hmm... On the subject of games designed for Vista, it looks like Creative is trying to push OpenAL on game developers as the new API that will give them a path to EAX. Bummer :( The sound card I linked does not yet have OpenAL acceleration either, but Auzentech is supposedly pushing C-Media to add …

Re: No DirectSound3D for Vista

Personally I think it's great that Microsoft is breaking Creative's one last hold on the gaming sound market because Creative is a terrible company. Creative has been stifling innovation in the sound card market for over 10 years buy buying out or suing into the ground all of their competitors, and …

Re: Dosbox with Gilde2x.ovl

I agree though that it's just not feasible right now to do full emulation, and you can sometimes get better results from a wrapper than …

Re: Im simply confused

I guess it's the mounting I have trouble with, especially since I'm using mac...but I assume u all are. You're kidding, right? Most of us are using Windows, and some use Linux. Only a few use Mac, which is why the documentation for it is a bit light.

Re: Ok a serious suggestion

Mounting as implemented is needed because the directory structure of a modern PC is not conducive to running old games. For example, I run my old games from subdirectories of d:\oldgames, but a lot of old DOS games must be run from the C: drive. Also, long filenames are not supported by DOS games …

Re: Daggerfall

It's not a buggy patch that caused the backwards/strafing issues, it's a timing problem with Daggerfall 2.13 in general. Back in the days of Win9x, I upgraded from a 120MHz 486 to a 450MHz Pentium II and was no longer able to play Daggerfall because of that exact issue (except with the use of some …
