That's the way a lot of RPGs are - if you just stick to the main quest you can finish them in a weekend. For me it's all about exploration though, so I rarely finish such games.

I think Underdogs sometimes goes a couple of months without updating her site, which is probably what happened (she probably forgot about the expiration date or something).

On my 2.2GHz system, using a recent DOSBox CVS build, Arena runs fine at around 40000 cycles on dynamic core. If you're using 0.63 then you should try a CVS build (see the link in my sig).

Here are my characters. The first is my main character, Hevanus, who is a custom class that I called Ranger. The second is Kitara, whom I haven't played at all but merely made as an experiment in female human (Breton) face creation.

Yeah, VDMSound is probably as good as it gets for NTVDM (Windows 2K/XP command prompt) sound, as it has to work within the limitations of the NTVDM. I thought someone has been working on an update, but I haven't heard anything for a long time.

First you have to run the install program from inside of DOSBox to configure sound and whatnot, when I think you just run: ARENA (or arena.bat if you want to type the extension as well, but it's unnecessary)

I'm not really sure what you're asking. VDMSound is not a stand-alone sound emulator. It is a replacement for the sound emulation in the NTVDM and only works alongside of it. I don't think what you are suggesting makes sense anyways, as the games drive the sound and thus CPU emulation is required to …

😕 That makes no sense. If you don't emulate the CPU then nothing would ever happen. The CPU is the brain of the computer.

The what.exe issue is a known issue, and I seem to recall that Qbix has no plans to address it. What.exe does not work in DOSBox nor the Win2K/XP NTVDM (Windows command prompt) because it stores the result in an environment variable (a bad way to do it - they should have used an error code instead). …
