I hope this all gets sorted out in CVS before the next release (if it hasn't already), because there is obviously a lot of interest in both direct serial and virtual modem features in DOSBox.

What OS are you running in? It's the compatability of the OS drivers for the card that are important, as DOSBox just uses SDL (or Direct3D if you're using gulikoza's D3D version, or OpenGL if you're using Moe's OpenGL-HQ stuff or output=opengl or output=openglnb). Also, what is the model name of …

What version of DOSBox are you using? If you're using older than 0.63 then try that. If you're using 0.63 then try a CVS build.

Did you get it working then? Was it putting it in a dummy c:\config.sys that fixed it, or what? Might help others in the future to know how you solved it (if you did).

As someone mentioned on g-productions' forum, Microsoft probably doesn't actually care whether you distribute it as long as you aren't selling it. As someone else mentioned, it'd be best to provide a link to the official MS version and then a patch or post-installer to make it work with MinGW32/MSYS …

Yeah if I cared I'd probably get a low-end laser printer that is LAN-shareable. Not sure what I'd do about color printing though.

VDMS emulates a sound card, so if you set a game up with VDMS then you have to run the game with the same settings in order for it to work.
