Re: The hatred of DosBox

I agree with his second statement though, that those without the patience to learn DOS probably shouldn't bother using an emulator of it and definitely have no right to complain about it being too complicated. Also, I don't use the frontends, but I'd assume that they try to make it easier.

No, I don't think I have the MOD player, but I think it was called something like WOWII. I just found an old floppy labeled MOD STUFF, but it only has MODEDIT v2.00 and MODPLAY PRO v2.09B - both of which are text-mode programs (the first is a tracker and the second a simple player).

You might try clicking the date above the name. Not sure if it works or not (I'm too lazy to test it). I'm more annoyed with the fact that the board has problems with multi-page new post search results and also with tracking which threads I've read all the new posts in.

Re: Sound in Flashback

Okay, I had this game laying around and decided to play with getting it to work well in DOSBox, and here is what I found: - Starting DOSBox with dynamic core and a high cycles count (I was using 25000, but it probably doesn't need that much) BEFORE starting the game seemed to help the slow-motion …

DE: What MiniMax is saying is that you can mount a path to any drive letter you want inside of DOSBox. I can understand why you'd want to do it the way you're doing (keeps things simple and easy to remember), although I have to admit that I don't do it that way either (I mount D:\oldgames to C, and …

Re: The hatred of DosBox

I pretty much ignore people who rip on DOSBox for being too hard to use, since the root of their problems is usually simply a lack of DOS knowledge. It really isn't fair - you don't hear people complaining that C64 emulators are too hard to use because they can't figure out how to load a game, yet …

Re: copy command

It would be best to replicate whatever the behavior is in old versions of DOS. The reason this happens it that, just like pure DOS, DOSBox doesn't support long filenames (filenames that don't fit into the mold of having 8 characters, one period, and three more characters). I don't know if classic …

Well, nothing as cool as that comes to mind, but: - Wizardry 6 and 7 used the PC Speaker for digitized sound effects that were good for their time. - The Dungeon Master games had PC Speaker music at the beginning, possibly MOD-like - Barbarian II (aka Axe of Rage?) had a catchy, multi-voice song …

Re: Blood

What is the exact mount command that you're using in DOSBox? My guess is that the virtual path to your directory that DOSBox sets up is different from what you think it is.
