Re: MT-32 emulator available again!

What's the 'correct MT-32 SysEx interpretation'? How can it recieve all patches and assign them all correctly? This is the big conundrum that leaves scepticism in the major players in the Sierra music community, if you could give me a bit more to go on than 'she'll be right' I would be relieved. :) …

Re: MT-32 emulator available again!

Hey Canadacow/et al., Alistair of Sierra Music Central here. It's been a while since I visited these parts (my loss!) and am wondering if a Sierra track, whether SQ3 or otherwise, could be uploaded- that is played back with the MT-32 emu. Also, what's the status? I'm often asked by people about this …

Re: 2003-8-12 Release

SQ3 (sometimes Sq4 and Sq5) Noooo! Space Quest V is a great example of a game you DON'T play with the MT-32. In the SysEx sending it just sends some dodgy General MIDI patch bank to conform the MT-32, as the soundtrack's designed for the SC-55. I absolutely hate 'CS TRUMP', 'CS HARP' et al. - …

Re: SCI0 problems

in Speedset
Separate things: GK1DOS = too slow in XP with VDMS. Windows games (haven't yet tried GK1WIN) = too fast as in Windows the processor ticks over so efficiently the music goes too fast. - Alistair

Re: SCI0 problems

in Speedset
Sorry for the late reply- school, et al. Nicht: GK1DOS, yeah. And Windows versions really do play the music too fast (for any processor over 1 GHz). Vlad: Explain this MIDI recording deal. :) SCI0 games, yeah, I can extract MIDI's. So not a worry. I have no idea how to extract MIDI/Sound resources …

Re: SCI0 problems

in Speedset
Well Nicht, I'm interested in recording music from the games, so speed is important.. Windows versions actually play music too fast because of modern processor speeds. Gabriel Knight 1 is another one that really bugs me with slow music. But thanks for the suggestion, I've really got to boot up …

Re: 7-25-2003 MT-32 Version

Just listened to it.. Certainly an improvement, now actually almost, almost sounds like the game's rendition. Keep it up. 😀 Obviously you still have a way to go. I wish you luck, keep us informed. - Alistair

Re: Major snag

I'm probably mistaken, because I know about MIDI, not the hardware stuff. But I remember that when I hold the master volume and sound group buttons together, it says 'Master Tune: 442.0Hz'. Don't mind me, I'm way outta my league here. 😀 - Alistair

Re: SCI0 problems

in Speedset
My bad, KQ6 runs fine. QFG4 is still a worry, though. And of course the SCI0 games that run fine for a few seconds, then begin to lag, then skip to catch up with where the song should be.. - Alistair

Re: SCI0 problems

in Speedset
Incorrect, Vlad. I used to use VDM Sound alone with Windows XP, and the sound's too slow. For games around the time of PQ3, LSL1 and 5 I can get Speedset running beautifully, but SCI0 games and newer SCI1 games won't run properly. Any ideas for help? Regards, - Alistair

Re: MT-32 emulation

Personally, I'd rather hear 'overly bright' instruments than instruments played with/through a crappy low-pass filter. Put me down for a SQ3 version, too. 😀 - Alistair

Re: MT-32 emulation

Listening right now- 1. Instruments sound wrong. Ignoring all else, only the drum kit sounds right, and it's ok. :) The actual instruments the song uses sound incorrect. Maybe 1 or 2 are right, but they sound not SQ3's SysEx instruments. What are you using? 2. Pitch is totally screwy. Interesting. …
