I also just noticed this, but SQ4 and LB2 are both MT-32 soundtrack games, as well! Only KQ6 from your pictures is a SC-55 game. Both of those games sound vastly superior in MT-32, IMHO.

Sierra games don't ever use channels 11-16 in DOS mode, although the tikalat patches I mentioned above add that functionality to allow music and SFX to not fight each other for 'channel room'. RCA outputs. However, one model, the Roland SC-D70 has digital in and outs. It has no display, but does have a SC-55 compatibility map (50-75% the same, I guess?), and a SC-88, 88Pro, and 8820 map. It can be had relatively cheap, and also works as a sound card if you have USB support.

Regarding Base vs Extended, it's nothing special. Base refers (roughly) to Adlib/FM, and Extended (roughly) to Sound Canvas. You will still get better MIDI performance in all these games by playing the DOS version and a Sound Canvas (plus the tikalat patches if you have them installed).

My guess is if you have the cable working, it's hooked up incorrectly to the MT-32. Out goes into In, no other plugs need to be used, although you can put In into Out if you feel like it.

When you say can't make it work, what does that mean? Does the game load? Does either music or SFX play? The usual problem I had with that hardware mix was IRQ conflicts.

Hey man, possibly multiple full stops in the filename are confusing the software. Rename to something like MT32_CONTROL.ROM (MT32.ROM for the other one) and see if that works.

You need to edit resource.cfg and change the line: soundDrv = MT32.DRV to soundDrv = MTBLAST.DRV You can't do this via the install program, you must edit the .CFG file.

TIM1 has a bug with the MT-32 driver. There is a patch on this forum in the "Sierra/Dynamix" thread stickied in the DOS forum section for improved MT-32 and GM playback. The game's music was written using a SC-55, as was TIM2, so they will sound good with it or similar imitators.

I would get a gen 2 MT-32, or use the MUNT emulator as a gen 2 MT-32 (or digital 32-bit which is even better for noise) - both are superior (or at least as good) for noise improvement than the RWI mods I would imagine.
