Re: How to get Sound in Dos Games on windows 98

my resourses only says interrupt request 11 and input/output 2400-24ff What do you mean by your "resources"? And what sort of changes have you made to your "auto bat" file? If you have "tried different drivers" then at this point it could very well be that something has become hopelessly messed up …

Re: Wolfenstein 3D memory problem

No, I think a P3 is pretty old at this point. It would be pretty questionable to get Wolfenstein 3D running on anything newer, at least. Back to the matter at hand: how much RAM do you have in this system? Did you try HIMEMX? (Did you miss my post entirely..?)

Re: Can't run Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel

in DOS
I have no idea what you're trying to do. Follow the 60 Seconds Guide. http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=8933 Specifically, take note that you should mount the same folder as drive C both when you install the game and when you want to run the game after installing it. Also, if you downloaded …

Artistic depiction of "Verschlimmbessern"

in Milliways
Saw this at BoingBoing today. Verschlimmbessern (German): To accidentally make something worse in the process of attempting to mend or improve it. Multiple applications around computers, cake baking and relationships. See the second image from the bottom. http://www.vaitkute.com/#/new-gallery-1/

Re: !! Full Throttle now on GOG !!

in Milliways
Like Day of the Tentacle, this is getting a Remastered edition that probably won't use DOSBox or be particularly compatible with ScummVM. I understood that the DOTT remaster pretty much just had better-quality audio (from the original sources) and graphics smoothed out by some filter or another. I'd …

Re: Good emulators in DOS

While I can understand that the need for excessive accuracy might be questionable, I think it nonetheless remains that unusually low accuracy of the sort you'd likely get from an ancient DOS emulator is also not particularly desirable. This gives me another idea - Wouldn't it be cool if someone …

If you can somehow get your sewing app working in an older version of XP or "XP Mode" (which is an SP2 image) SP2 image? That's news to me. What gave you that idea? https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/e77c837d-bf4b-4a3a-a33b-a85d1a52008f/can-windows-7-xp-mode-install-xp-sp2- …

Re: FrankenDOS?

I'm not clear as to what exactly you would do with QBASIC. I mean, it's fine for dabbling in programming, but for that purpose I'd rather use Python. But EDIT.COM requires QBASIC.EXE, so you'd need to have it around anyway if you're using EDIT.COM. There's probably a better alternative to EDIT.COM …

Re: DOSBox Feature Request Thread

Does anyone know what needs to be implemented or faked in order to support GameWizard32's save state feature? I know there is a save-state patch in a few non-official builds but it is pretty buggy, and downstream apps like Dosbox on mobile devices can't benefit from it easily. The first page of …

Re: Wolfenstein 3D memory problem

How much RAM do you have installed in this computer? I seem to recall that the Win9x version of HIMEM supports a larger amount of RAM (i.e. it can create more extended memory) than the MS-DOS version – possibly too much RAM for Wolfenstein to handle. That's my best guess, anyway. http://www.msfn.org …

Re: Croc not playing music

There's some rambling about Croc 2 at http://punkrockhacker.blogspot.ca/2014_06_01_archive.html that may be applicable here. Do other audio CDs play properly? Do you have more than one optical drive? Are you running Daemon Tools?
