I wouldn't say that the "DOS window system" is "buggy"; it's just that it cannot accommodate all the wacky things that DOS games try to do. Just play your DOS games in fullscreen. (And don't alt-tab out of them either.)

I am inclined to believe there is something else on your system that is causing this behavior. You can try setting the environment variable SDL_VIDEODRIVER=dummy before launching DOSBox (e.g. when setting "dosboxpath" in your script). This will cause DOSBox not to display a window.

Like I said, it depends on the motherboard. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_c … entium_chipsets , only the 430NX and 430HX chipsets even supported 512 MB, and those both predated the Pentium MMX.
