Re: Found some windows 95 updates

in Milliways
I for one have no idea what "compaq windows 95" is. Googling around, I guess there was a time when Compaq was selling a version that didn't have IE on the desktop, but that doesn't sound like much of a change.

Re: Hocus Pocus, the AWE32 PnP doesn't go.

in DOS
Happens that the blaster settings remain the first one I specify in the batch file. :\ So it doesn't ask you to press any key to continue? That means that batch file is halting after running hocus.exe. What if you use the line "call hocus.exe" ? Ah and also, with those settings, I only hear the …

Re: Hocus Pocus, the AWE32 PnP doesn't go.

in DOS
when I exit the game the parameters don't go back to their original ones, I always have to reboot. You can always type the line in manually. Rebooting is excessive. Are you running the .bat file directly from the DOS prompt, or are you using some kind of menu program? What happens if you use …

Re: NTVDM on windows 10 x64

in PC Emulation
I guess that's kind of neat, but its reliance on stolen code might make it of dubious utility and I doubt Microsoft will be persuaded to included it in future versions (especially since "the DPMI stuff still needs some work"). (And the installation of IE4 in later versions of Windows 95 can also be skipped, apparently.) In theory, you can get the same benefits by using 98lite , but the full version of that …

Re: Possible bug in DosBox

So if interrupt 13 is truly not being handled by DosBox, it's a major bug, because interrupt 13 is necessary for all forms of disk access. If I'm not mistaken, the overwhelmingly vast majority of games do not require direct disk access. (Captain Blood used it because of its copy protection scheme; …

Re: reading txt files

The problem is the lack of support for piping. You can add the FreeDOS MORE.EXE to your system but it still won't work because of this. I understand there are no plans to add piping support to the project. If I'm not mistaken, "more " will display the text of and does not require piping.

Re: Batch programming in DosBox

I don't think I've ever heard someone to refer to DOSBox as "DB" before. It took me a while to figure out what you were getting at. Setting DOSBox configuration parameters while DOSBox is running is indeed not something people usually do and I would not expect it to work very well. There really …
