Re: How many use linux?

in Milliways
This lack of direction and the resulting diversity is one of the strong points of Linux and open source software in general. I would suggest the contrary. It would surely be far better to have 90% of collective effort directed to solutions that work for 90% of the people rather than having a …

Except you were wanting know "What is your basis for this conlusion? Non-ionizing radiation does not somehow become more dangerous if you up the intensity" , and I was giving you examples from first hand knowledge. Neither of us were discussing levitation. The OP was asking about "high power …

The guy who held it got some wicked blowback from the rear of the antenna, and in effect microwaved the skin on that hand. He had some pretty nasty blisters the next day. (Remember, 2.4GHz WiFi is in the same EM range as your home microwave, and those signals excite water molecules). Well, sure, …

2) High power EMI fields *can* be dangerous. To give you an example, some of the Pro WiFi gear I've had to install (multi-watt Tx output, with a narrow beamwidth to carry signal 5 miles to the receiving station) is NOT something you want to stand in front of ( or get your head in the way of ), when …

The excitement over SteamOS and steamboxes also seems to have diminished. But again, perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places. (The Ouya sure doesn't seem to be doing too well.)

2) Linux totally messed up the automatic fan controller on my Lenovo Thinkpad L512 several years ago. TWICE. Reflashing the BIOS did not solve it; I had to send it in to Lenovo for a depot warranty repair both times! If you think I'm making this up, here's my post: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/R-and …

Re: DOSBox-X branch

Well, what I meant was: if you try to create six virtual CD drives with Daemon Tools (even without mounting anything on them), does Windows try to stop you one way or another? Because that would also preclude trying to set up six emulated IDE devices via DOSBox. In terms of actually mounting ISO …

I am a college student who needs to write papers use cad software and use excel to balance my checkbook. On the side I also sell antiques and old games on ebay so I am constantly viewing and resizing pictures using GIMP (Since with the software its a big nono to accidentally post the CD KEY. :P …

I seem to recall it has no particular restrictions on the number of drives that can be added. It's worth a try just to see if it works at …

I must say that I am a bit surprised - thought there would be many more Linux boosters here. Maybe I'm just hanging out in the wrong forums, but enthusiasm for Linux on the desktop seems to be somewhat diminished as of late. It used to bother me seeing lengthy threads espousing Linux as being free …

Re: DOSBox-X branch (Win 95 limitation?)

Am I wishing for the impossible? Surely it's a bit outlandish? I don't think anyone had six CD-ROM drives whenever this game you are trying to play came out. Even then, the game will probably expect you to eject disc 1 and insert the next disc into the same drive when required; I don't think I've …

I'm not sure exactly what you would expect to learn. If the engine was written that badly, nothing short of disassembly and patching (or getting appropriate period-correct hardware) will be much help, I reckon. (Did you get the patch? Wikipedia says there was a patch.)
