Re: MS-DOS, audio CD, and some other trouble

in DOS
I tested Mxplay.exe, it played rayman music cd on dos! But a bit slow... mxplay probably uses the same kind of digital CD playback that Windows uses. Second reality worked the first time before i edited anything, so you are right but i won't be able to have any sound... So your sound card requires …

Re: MS-DOS, audio CD, and some other trouble

in DOS
CD light does not flash when it should be playing music on dos, it just starts to make sounds, like reading, and stops. That's not a good sign at all. It's possible your laptop simply wasn't designed with this capability in mind. Perhaps there is some option in the BIOS? Are you sure the light …

Re: MS-DOS, audio CD, and some other trouble

in DOS
Do you actually see the CD drive's light flashing when it should be playing music? If so, it could be some obscure mixer issue, in which case you'll need to find the DOS mixer utility for your laptop's sound hardware and adjust the volume for CD audio. There might also be an in-game setting for …

Re: Any interest to hack and improve Mortal Kombat 2 dos?

in DOS
(besides the new Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection) ...Why not just use that and be done with it? It is cheap, widely available, arcade-accurate and runs perfectly on all modern systems, does it not? Modding old DOS games can be difficult and is not often done. Custom formats and wacky programming …

Re: S-Video capturing

in Milliways
VirtualDub can indeed record from capture cards directly, and I'm sure other programs can as well. Last time I looked I could not do better than VirtualVCR-Matroska ; as Matroska does not require a constant frame rate, it is relatively impervious to frameskipping/desynchronizing issues. The best …

Re: S-Video capturing

I thought the only ATI cards with VIVO were the ones explicitly marketed as All-in-Wonder. Some cards have S-Video ports on them, but particularly in the case of video-in there will probably be a somewhat more specialized connector. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video#Non-4-pin_variants . I …

Re: Settlers 3

Settlers III is a Windows game, in fact since it was released in 1998 it's probably a Windows 95 game. It's likely possible to run it in DOSBox, but you'll need to get and install an appropriate copy of Windows (3.1 or 95). If it was a Windows 3.1 game, it would say "This program requires Microsoft …

Re: the trap of retro computing

After building 4-5 retro systems, I am wishing I hadn't wasted my time on K6-2. I have two board I got off Ebay sitting in the closet. Obsolete is obsolete. The pentium 3 systems I built are still useful but K6-2... forget it. I wish I had spent more time building more modern systems - like another …

Re: Help with Installing Multi-Disk Windows 95/98 Game

in Windows
Many CD-based programs of the time absolutely insist on being run from the first CD-ROM drive letter they find. Computers with multiple optical drives were exceptionally uncommon at the time, you see. There is no way around this that I have ever heard of. You just have to reassign the drive letters …

Re: Mig Alley - MFC Application error?

in Windows
If those don't correspond to any of the drives or directories that you are actually using, it's probably just leftover bits of debug code and not worth worrying about. Did you not try Dependency Walker yet? Also, have you installed DirectX 9? Apparently you need to do that in Windows 7.

Re: Asking Help for Games on Windows 8

That is exactly what you wrote in your first post! Why don't you provide MORE information, like what sort of video card you have and what version of the drivers you are running!? Did you find the patch for Syberia? Did installing it make any difference?

Did you not Google? The first hit for <"os/2 warp" smp> is http://www.edm2.com/0507/smp.html , which suggests you need a particular version of Warp 4. See also http://www.os2museum.com/wp/?p=819 .
