Re: OS-es with weak OpenGL

in PC Emulation
I do not understand the question. What exactly are you aiming at? If you don't bother installing hardware drivers, every OS will have "weak" OpenGL. And if there are no drivers available, that's more of a problem with the hardware (and the people supporting it) than the OS. Are you looking for …

Re: Dos games with no EXE

in DOS
Nah, you'd just get people coming in saying "It's not illegal, it's old so it's free now". Also, no one reads agreements.

Both Blake Stone and Police Quest are available for purchase at http://www.gog.com for low prices in fully-supported versions that are likely to work without any problems.

Re: Running a 16 bit game on Win 7 (64 bit)

in Windows
I tried running windows 95 emulator, but it wouldn't run software- side note: what's the point of having windows 95 if you can't run software with it? Are people just that crazy for the snake game? Side note two: was it Windows 95 that snake game was even on? What exactly are you referring to? It …

Re: dBase and Encrypted Files

in DOS
The Login file was the only file of the group that is associated with PROTECCT that had a read-only attribute. This language is ambiguous. Look at ALL the files, not just the ones you think are associated with PROTECT. I believe I'll try to use one of the VM's you suggested. Do you think one of …

Re: dBase and Encrypted Files

in DOS
You don't really need all of DOS; any ordinary boot floppy (or image of a boot floppy), even from Windows 95 or 98, will do fine. Such floppy images are easily found throughout the Internet. FreeDOS will also probably do the trick. I've begun to look into the VM's suggested, but at first glance, …

Re: dBase and Encrypted Files

in DOS
I find that the login file DOES contain a Read Only attribute. So I guess that must be the reason I can't enter a password. I doubt it. But if it does come down to attributes, you can still use DOSBox provided you use disk images and boot a real version of DOS, as in http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic …

Re: dBase and Encrypted Files

in DOS
Okay, and when you were running it in Vista, did you have folders exactly named C:\dBase and C:\database, or were they something else?

Re: SDRMAP 6.5

At first I thought your files were corrupted, but it turned out I was wrong. SDRMAP came with a Windows Installer namely InstallShield 3.0 so I had to use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1 to install it. FYI, there are much, much easier ways to get around InstallShield problems. http://www.reactos.org/ …

Re: dBase and Encrypted Files

"Similar?" The computer doesn't care about "similar". When you run DOSBox, what folders are you mounting? Are you mounting c:\dosprgs as drive C, or what? Considering DOSBox cannot recognize folders with spaces (like "dBase IV"), it is amazing it works at all.

Re: dBase and Encrypted Files

in DOS
that somehow DOSBox is preventing dBase from reading the encrypted file that contains the password. While it's not impossible, it is very unlikely that there is something about the encryption that would interfere with DOSBox. A file is a file, encrypted or not. The dBase program worked correctly …
