Re: MCGA and Another world

in DOS
This eBay auction has a pretty good scan of the box. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35903326/566554164_o.jpg If you look really closely at the green sticker, it seems it supports EGA and MCGA – and Tandy, of course. I was kind of skeptical before I found this picture, and I really doubt it would run very …

Re: Windows 98 vmware

The one thing I can't stand about VMware is that every time there's an update from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4, say, you're supposed to Uninstall your existing version Restart your computer Install the new version and restart your computer again . Actually, the other thing is that their website has an obnoxious …

Re: Emulation for Red Book Audio on Windows 7?

in PC Emulation
The thing is, I'm certain it can be done somehow. My desktop running Windows 7 64-bit has an older IDE drive installed with an audio cable connected to the onboard sound card. It plays back games using Red Book audio just fine. To be sure: these are the same games with audio problems when played …

Re: Windows 98 vmware

in PC Emulation
I need it only for my mother. She wants to run foxpro 2.0 (which is a win3.1 version). Windows 3.1 runs well enough in DOSBox. And win98 needs more than 16 colors. What gave you that idea? The standard Win9x VGA driver is 16 colors. You can even persuade it to run in black and white if you really …

Re: Dosbox and PC-PLC comms via RS-232

Accessing parallel ports can be tricky in Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, but I don't think there's any particular restriction on serial ports. Or maybe there is? See http://retired.beyondlogic.org/porttalk/porttalk.htm . (See also UserPort .) Since you say the application is speed-sensitive, it could be …

Benji Lister wrote: Firstly, kudos to the Dosbox programmers for creating this useful software. Support for non-game applications is limited, just so you know. So just out of curiousity, can someone explain what Dosbox is doing that fixes the problem? That would depend entirely on just what "the …

I haven't seen a slot-loading drive in a long time. Do they still make them? SquallStrife wrote: I wonder if you could modify the Wii optical drive to work in a PC.. It's slot-loading AND reads GameCube disks. I reckon a lot of the magic is in the hardware controller (much as it is with floppy …

Re: PCEm. Another PC emulator.

I don't suppose you've gained any profound insights into the riddles of getting Windows 95 to recognize an IDE controller? Someone was trying to add that to DOSBox a while back, and ran into problems.

Re: quake mod team fortress ORG

In the upper-right corner of your post you will see two buttons. The one in the middle [between the "x" and the "] will let you edit your existing post, so you do not need to add an extra post to your thread if you notice you've made a mistake right after finishing your post. Anyway, "cant seem to …

Re: Old creative cd-rom drives

in Milliways
I thought they were actually Sony drives? The nice thing about them is that they interface with certain sound cards, like the Pro Sonic 16, but this sounds like an age/build quality problem. (Alternatively, double-check the master/slave jumpers.)

Re: Partitioning and formatting - disk issues

in DOS
I've never tried to partition flash media in a card reader, but if all else fails, the Disk Management item in the Computer Management control panel ought to be able to assign a drive letter to extra partitions.

Re: Partitioning and formatting - disk issues

in DOS
But, me not so great with this software side of things, could one have 3 primary partitions with only one of them active AND be able to use the other 2 normally for installs/data etc? Or is that just silly ? Anyway, I can have 3 primary partitions then, 1 active, the rest 'inactive'(?) and still be …
