It seems there are many who say that the original LSL games, however distinguished they may be, weren't particularly good "games" in the final analysis. Then again, maybe they'll work on fixing that this time around.

Curses, the Panasonic DOS USB driver doesn't seem to like the USB controller on my ASUS P3B-F. That's going to make things a little more complicated.

I do have MI2 handy, but is there no convenient command-line player that will get the job done? It's also been a while, so I have no idea what sort of drivers this thing needs. Will http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=51 be enough?

I'll go so far as to make a recording of the audio output of a particular program known to sound a particular way on an OPL3, if you like. After all, that would be a far more dependable test than the results of any kind of chip-identifier.

To be clear, you are talking about the "autoexec" section of dosbox.conf, right? It shouldn't make any difference whether the mount commands are in there or if they're typed manually.

It's a Chinese RPG. It should play the CD audio tracks because if I don't use dosbox to run the game and use my cd drive instead, it open up itunes and it has the music track of it. Since this is a DOSBox problem, it should go in the DOSBox forum. However, DOSBox is only intended for use with games, not applications, so do not expect to get much assistance. If the parallel printer prints fine, why don't you just use that? Also, are you using the Megabuild version of DOSBox?

That's pretty unlikely. "Interactive Fiction" tends to be strictly text-based, with minimal graphics. What you want is the "Multimedia Novel" adventure subgenre. Now that you mention it, Pangea: Return to Planet Earth seems like a likely candidate.
