Re: UniPCemu review request

The 1987 version of the Turbo XT BIOS does proceed to attempting to boot from diskette, after which the message "Disk Boot Failure" appears, even with a DOS 3.3 system disk mounted. Before, I used the 2008 Turbo XT BIOS version, which produced error 02, and the original IBM XT BIOS 1986 version, …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

@OPLx: The pitch is too low when playing back SAA1099-writes containing VGM files. Apparently you are correcting for vanilla DOSBox getting the SAA1099 base clock wrong. That however makes it sound wrong on DOSBox builds that have this corrected, and has the additonal effect of playing .VGM files …

Re: UniPCemu review request

I had it in the directory, but named it OPTROM.1. Changing it to VGABIOS.BIN completes the memory test with the original XT 1986 BIOS. After the emulators first shows "A" and then "B" in green, the original XT BIOS now prints error number 601, which is listed as "General diskette or adapter failure …

Re: UniPCemu review request

I have switched to the 64bit version. At least I now get a recognizable screen image. window.png The cursor blinks for five seconds (CPU speed around 75%), then it's back to "program is not responding". Trying to use the XT 1986 BIOS only gets me a blinking cursor and nothing else, not even the …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

The safer way to manipulate the PCjr's (and early Tandy 1000's) Audio Multiplexer is Int1A AH=80 AL=Audio source (0=PC speaker, 1=Cassette, 2=I/O channel "Audio In", 3=SN76496). The reason that manipulating port 0x61 directly is bad is that on the Tandy 1000 TX and TL, which don't need the …

Re: A different kind of emulator

The GUI runs well, and I have indeed run the emulator with the correct command line. But I think the message appears before the program even has a chance to look at the command line. I can run Dependency Walker if you should find it useful. Edit: Here's what Dependency Walker says: Error: At least …

Re: 4-D (Sports) Boxing - No Tandy DAC

I have compiled a build of SVN r4000 with that source patch applied. And again, remember to disable the Sound Blaster via sbtype=none. Edit: Direct hardware access to the Tandy DAC is now only disabled if the DAC actually does occupy the same port, IRQ or DMA. The original source did not bother to …

Re: 4-D (Sports) Boxing - No Tandy DAC

I think I figured it out now. At least it now produces samples in 4-D Boxing seemingly at the correct speed while not negatively affecting Sim City and Space Quest III v1.0P with its Tandy DAC driver. It does not sound as clean as your recording, but then again, your recording seems to be low-pass …

Re: 4-D (Sports) Boxing - No Tandy DAC

TD15.DRV uses direct DAC mode. DOSBox only supports DMA-driven mode. Adding support would be as trivial as adding one line ("tandy.dac.chan->AddSamples_m8(1, &data);" below the "// direct output" comment), but then the sample rate will be whatever the game writes to ports C6 and C7, which …

Re: UniPCemu review request

I wanted to try its supposedly cycle-accurate CPU emulation, but found the user interface for setting it up to be such a nightmare that I have given up trying. Choosing normal, intuitive PC keys for control, instead of mapping meaningless PSP keys to even more meaningless PC keys, would be a start. …
