I'm not sure, but that isn't all that helpful anyway, because a smaller heatsink will have a lower contact area with the air.

I've heard that these PS2->Serial adapters are not universal, and your best bet is to use the one that came with the mouse. Also, try other COM ports.

It should be as easy as selectng the type of mouse in Windows Setup. If its a serial mouse, I don't think there is an easy way to select COM1 or COM2, so if you need to have it plugged in COM2 for whatever reason, you can experiment altering its address/IRQ to match standard COM1 or COM2 values and …

For DOS I'd rather use a packet driver + mTCP than MSCLIENT any day. Less of a hassle setting up, smaller conventional memory footprint and is still mantained.

Well, since you have everything backed up, you could just try a clean install. If it works, reinstall your software, restore your data (and only data) and be happy. If not, just restore your backup.

It uses system RAM. Try loading any cache software before the SB emulation and it will complain that it needs the first portion of your EMS (or XMS, don't remember) memory free. If you go to the driver's folder you will see an ECW file it loads when it starts.

For a P3 800MHz you don't really have to get anything higher than a DX7 card anyway, and for that Geforce4 MX cards (and your Quadro) are excellent.

Don't disregard Windows 98 just yet! I find that, for several PCI boards, it provides better compatibility than the DOS driver itself! Adlib emulation will only be present on VxD drivers, though, and it is usually atrocious. But for SFX and GM you'll be fine.

They quad-pumped the FSB on the pentium M just as they did on the pentium 4, so that wasn't an issue. You could try an optical mouse. Then you'll at least be able to point out if you got the 5V and GND pins correctly.
