Re: Video games are too heavily monetized these days

in Milliways
i am not happy with how extremely monetized games are these days, I mean in 20-30 years when we look back and say hey this is classic gaming, how much of it will still exist? Heavily monetized games are a minority. Only the biggest AAA titles really bother to any significant extent. So I don't …

Re: UT 2004 settings for modern computers

in Windows
No you should stick to D3D8, the D3D9 renderer also has issues. It's D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice, which you're somehow missing? Most annoying problem with UT2004 I wish I could figure out was the how to disable the screen shake effect when hit, it's way exaggerated on newer PCs, I think it's performance …

Re: Old GOG games are slowly getting killed

in Windows
I wouldn't expect Microsoft to care about the problem based on reports from gamers. They care if some enterprise software breaks, which might be the case if a compatibility mode is broken. For gamers it's probably best to hope for someone to create a third party solution, I think hoping gho can …

Re: DGVoodoo2 stops game booting?

It's hard to say with so little information. 1) What GPU do you have? 2) Have you changed any settings in dgVoodooCpl.exe? 3) Can you test dgVoodoo with other games? Also dgVoodoo won't really make Sacred run in true widescreen. It will be stretched and look pretty bad.

Re: The Force Engine (Dark Forces Port)

In the video the weapons have filtering or the video have bad scaling or something The weapons do not have filtering in the video. The engine does not support it. Video scaling also doesn't make a that huge difference, I can tell even at 480p that it does not have any filtering (it does get tricky …

Re: The Force Engine (Dark Forces Port)

I'm waiting for 32-bit color/lightning, anti-aliasing and texture filtering support. I can compensate somewhat the lack of anti-aliasing and texture filtering by downsampling from 8K though and it's already a huge improvement over the DOS version. Save support is also nice, the game isn't made for …

Re: Rainbow six 1998

You need to use the DEFAULT settings, not "other" settings. Copy dgvoodoo.conf to the game directory and dgVoodoo will use the default settings, which works with most games. Other settings are unsafe, and may break stuff. Rainbow Six works fine. I suspect you set antialiasing/resolution/texture …

F.E.A.R - Two remaining issues (well three)

I played through F.E.A.R two weeks ago with dgVoodoo, got sick since then so sort of forgot some information, but there were three issues I ran into. One is known, that F.E.A.R complains in the settings that it doesn't have enough VRAM. Comparing textures it seems like it had no effect on texture …

Re: Nvidia adaptergate

Space heaters are meant to radiate... heat. That's their sole purpose in life. :-) But, more importantly, space heaters are preassembled (and they are really not that complex to begin with), so there is nothing "DIY" about them. Even your average grandma can go to the store, buy one, come home, …

Re: Nvidia adaptergate

I don't see the correlation. Is a 1000W space heater much more likely to fail than a 500W space heater? Will a 1000W space heater do more damage when it fails? A 25W electronic device can start a fire just fine. Space heaters are meant to radiate... heat. That's their sole purpose in life. :-) But, …

Re: Nvidia adaptergate

3090 Ti is the same TDP and has practically no reports of issues like this. That isn't the cause, even if you want it to be. You missed my point entirely. What I meant was that, something like this would be very unlikely (if not actually impossible) to happen with a GPU that has a TGP of 200 - 250W …

Re: Monet: The Mystery of the Orangery

in Windows
Thank you ZellSF. Enabling the Indeo codec did indeed make the difference. Never did install DDrawCompat. Walking around the inside of a Monet painting is a surreal and cool experience. I'm surprised it gets that far, I need the IgnoreException compatibility fix or it crashes at start. Not sure how …

Re: Nvidia adaptergate

Good products are made with considerations for potential user errors. It does not absolve Nvidia at all. IMO it's even worse for them. It's one of the most basic things to test for and Nvidia with their profit margins can't manage it? Pathetic. But, the real cause, is the insane current that the …
