Re: Welcome to the updated VOGONS

in Milliways
I don't particularly have anything against replacing the normal cursor. If it was only a dumb thing that didn't break functionality, but this also removes the "Text Select" cursor, so it's harder to make out where you can select text. That should be fixable with this CSS: I can fix a lot of …

Re: Welcome to the updated VOGONS

in Milliways
Fixing this problem with the dithering is on my TODO list, since obviously there are a lot of panels out there with electronics that can’t handle it properly. I’ll leave it to anyone with more electrical engineering experience to explain why some panels fail to draw high frequency patterns and …

Re: New forum suggestions/Feedback

in Milliways
Besides probably resulting in a flickering mess when scrolling on some LCDs, the dithering also looks bad at different zoom levels: Capture.JPG Also why no "Text select" cursor on selectable text? I can't think of any other web page that does this annoying nonsense. And if you go to a "Main" forum: …

Re: Old style media viewer... MPC-BE, MPC-HC or what?

in Milliways
Maybe the solution then is to avoid installing these broken pieces of software, instead of avoiding well-maintained and organized codec packs. In any case, I am sure that within the plethora of configuration settings available in K-Lite there is one that can be ticked to temporary disable whatever …

Re: Force change resolution to 1024 x 768?

in Windows
Yes, you can't play a 640 x 480 game at 1024 x 768. Depends on your definition of playing in 1024x768 (for some scaling fits that definition) and why the game is 640x480. For WarCraft II you can use extra resolution to expand the view area using using Wargus, though I don't think that has reverse …

Re: dgVoodoo 2.6.x and related WIP versions

Wanted to play Grandia again, trying to find the best version to play I checked how the original 2000 PC release runs with dgVoodoo: Grandia2.jpg Works great with forced resolution and antialiasing. Texture filtering isn't so good for the UI. It isn't the best version if you're wondering. There is …

Re: Old style media viewer... MPC-BE, MPC-HC or what?

in Milliways
MPC-HC comes with built-in LAVFilters (that you can disable if you want to test an external codec for something). You should avoid codec packs (like CCCP or K-Lite) unless you're doing something very weird and know what you're doing; those codec packs are likely to introduce compatibility problems …

Re: Icewind Dale 2 frame drops

Try 'Fast videomemory access', it helps (I don't say it completely solves the problem). Sadly, this game accesses the hw backbuffer by both GPU/CPU which requires a lot of videomemory readback, it's not optimal on discrete GPU's. (It runs better on my integrated PU...) On a GTX 1070 / i7 4790k I …

Re: Accelerated 2D upscaling for old 2D games.

It's also a very poor habit to assume people do not have knowledge. Something I didn't do. I only assumed you probably didn't want to follow a discussion that's split over two topics that is irrelevant to you. At any rate, the image I posted was the correct one, if you really want to follow the …

Re: Accelerated 2D upscaling for old 2D games.

Hi Dege, is it possible to push the upscaling algo to a WIP build? Zell, as horrific a visage as that seam is, I think you've used the wrong picture there? Dege's already uploaded a WIP build with the upscaling changes. And no I didn't upload the wrong picture, don't worry if you can't follow that …

Re: Accelerated 2D upscaling for old 2D games.

Ok, I see the logic. 720 * 3 == 2160 == 1080 * 2. So, dgVoodoo renders the frame in 2160p, then seeing it's larger than 1080p of the output, it calculates the first-level mipmap which perfectly fits into the output. I reproduced it myself with 480 * 3 == 1440 == 720 * 2 (my monitor is only 1440p). …

Re: Do these Windows Glide games exist?

in Windows
I played both Final Fantasy 7 and 8 on Voodoo 2 (W98) and I am sure they both run well on Voodoo 1 (W95). The question isn't whether the games play well on a Voodoo card or not, but whether they utilize the 3DFX Glide API or not. Lands of Lore II is Drect3D only for Windows render, Glide for the …

Re: dgVoodoo 2.6.x and related WIP versions

That was some of the scaling weirdness I was referring to btw, Dege. I've only seen it with downsampling myself. If you want a way to reproduce, install Dark Reign 2, set dgVoodoo2 to 3x resolution forcing, desktopresolution to 1920x1080 and set Dark Reign 2's resolution to 1280x720 (and obviously …

Re: dgVoodoo 2.6.x and related WIP versions

If you're adding a major feature when you don't have much spare time I can't wait to see what you'll work on when you do. - Default DirectX refresh rate is changed from 60Hz to coming from GeneralExt\DesktopResolution If refresh rate enumeration is off in dgVoodooCpl, then selecting any …
