Re: EF2000 for DOS with 3DFX patch

I've met a few hackers online, Paul. If anyone takes the bait, what directions should I give them? What stub library where? :) Your comment about the TSR brings up another question of mine: Could someone write a TSR that could intercept any and all DOS mode (or possibly Win16) video code? Not just …

Re: Grand Theft Auto

Chanza, is that Simon the Sorcerer? That's a game I'd like to play again. Anyway, GTA: I should be able to release a new version of Glidos later today or tomorrow. Don't be too hopeful though: there's some sort of problem with lag in the controls. I don't know the game well so perhaps that's normal …

Re: problems with new files posted on 10/11

This problem may not actually be with GliDOS, but rather with the way the terrain is built. (eg. two overlapping textures on the same Y-Z axis will cause jittering as the engine figures out which one to display.) However, that's a big 'may'. Could be. Also I think RB pulls in more detailed textures …

Re: EF2000 for DOS with 3DFX patch

I'm a rank amateur at the programming lark, but I assume that even with a direct link to a graphics card (as opposed to through an external API) all the executable is actually looking at is a memory address. If that is true would it be possible for a TSR to intercept the memory calls and redirect …

Re: EF2000 for DOS with 3DFX patch

As G+ doesn't use an API (Glide or DirectX), but makes direct hardware calls there is no way a wrapper will be able to intercept the calls. It's as if the game IS the API and the game all wrapped up into one neat little package. Why DiD did it that way I have no idea, except for at the time 3D …

Re: Grand Theft Auto

Yeh, you're right. For GTA I have fixed one bug in OpenGLide and two in GLidos, so just as you say, not a waste of time. How do you set GTA to higher graphics resolution in software mode?

Snover wrote: 😮 That was thoroughly incomprehensible. You've bested yourself this time, Paul. 😜 That's nothing: you should have seen the message I posted afterwards explaining the mistake. Luckily I'm admin so I could delete if before anybody saw it. 😁

Re: EF2000 for DOS with 3DFX patch

Well I understand from prev posts that you had the OEM version first. Is this with Version 2? Tips to get the sim to run (software mode) as I know them... Don't try on a Nvidia card if poss. I have the feeling support was dodgy. The DOS version uses Univesa. Run the Univesa *.exe to create a new …

Re: problems with new files posted on 10/11

Ok, after some quick spotchecks: 2 mb: No corruption; fps too low 4 mb: No corruption; fps resonable 6 mb: Corruption, but dissappearing; fps resonable 8 mb: Corruption; fps resonable More testing tomorrow, it 01:00h a.m. cet. ;) Interesting! FPS no better than reasonable on any test? Has …

Re: EF2000 for DOS with 3DFX patch

Well I've gotten nowhere with EF2000. It looks to me as though the 3dfx version is statically linked with the Glide library, and doesn't use Glide2x.ovl, in which case there's no chance with Glidos. On the other hand, I can't even get it running in software mode.

Re: problems with new files posted on 10/11

OK... I registered I found a nasty enough bug that I decided to make a new release rather than send a copy just to you. I did go ahead and do a complete uninstall of RB3D to get rid of the Promised Land graphics package add-on. I did a complete new install of RB3D so that the graphics were the ones …

Re: RB3D continued

I've just released a new version. Someone had reported a problem with the previous release and I've located and fixed a potential cause. Red Baron now seems to run at an acceptable speed even with the Texture memory set down to 2MB. That setting had beed quoted as a fix for the RB texture …
