Re: Any alternative to vdmsound?

in Windows
For Windows NT4/2000/XP the only other alternative to VDMSound was something called SoundFX 2000 http://www.softsystem.co.uk/products/soundfx.htm It did not receive a Windows 98 port, although the source was released after a while. Sorry, man.

Re: The Wrapper Collection Project

I began talking to "bearwindows" on email (this guy: http://bearwindows.boot-land.net/index.htm) By coincidence, he directed me to this interesting thread. http://www.phantom.sannata.ru/forum/index.php?t=6979 http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ru&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F% …

Re: Video from 1984 of Mac demo

in Milliways
Here's an interesting fact about that Mac video. That is NOT a 128k Mac, though you would think so since it was the first model produced. I read someplace that a 128k Mac wasn't up to doing all the things he wanted to demonstrate so they made a special 512k version for Steve to use as the demo unit …

Re: Voodoo 2 DOS Glide compatibility matrix

Note to self: "3Dfx Interactive" became "3dfx interactive" on March 16 1999, right around the launch of 3dfx Voodoo3. However, there was a Voodoo2 reissues under the new "3dfx" logo, and Voodoo3 prototypes before this name change used the old logo, so it's not a completely cut-and-dry dividing line. …

There's a place near me which does computer recycling as a non-profit charity. They take donations, use working parts to assemble working computers and recycle the rest (I think they send the rest out to the nearest reclaimer. Local "missions" take skids of the resulting working computers overseas …

Re: Intergraph GLZ

in Milliways
They were professional 3D rendering accelerators that accelerated OpenGL. A lot of times, cards like this would be Windows NT-only, though I am not sure what OS's were supported by Intergraph specifically. Not really a gaming card, though because it is an OpenGL accelerator, one of Carmack's first …

Re: PowerVR Fun Thread

Would really like to get hold of the m3d CDs, the last upload seems to have expired. Would any kind soul be able to upload them again? You mean this one: ftp://78.46.141.148/driver/Matrox/m3D/ ? Actually the previous guy uploaded m3d CD 1.1 (if you want it, elianda?). The other CD he uploaded was …

Re: Glide 2.1.1 games and Voodoo 2

in Windows
Only tested Mechwarrior 2 of that bunch, and it will run with no glitches. Why even test POD and Tigersharks when they got newer 3DFX Glide patches making it the obvious route if you want to play those games? (Less hassle) Maybe he doesn't understand why they wouldn't have been working out of the …

Around 1998-1999 I was working tech support for Iomega. I thank all that is good in this world for that evil to have been abandoned. Hearing the words Zip Drive and Jaz Drive still send shivers down my spine. Steve Gibson, Gibson Research Corp., "Trouble In Paradise" https://www.grc.com/tip/ …
