Re: Guess the game!!

Indeed it is PLEBS (upcase because it's an acronym). An anonymously authored DOS textmode game with instructions that some might consider more entertaining than the gameplay...

Re: Install Video Device Driver

No one will tell you that running an industrial programming application in DOSBox is aood idea. If I had another option I would use it. DOSBox is not well suited to your purpose, but there are quite a few VMs that are. That said, you have the option of booting real DOS in DOSBox using a HDD image, …

Re: Title Bar text

Is there a way to change the text on the title bar of the window. Not in official builds. However, you can use a source code patch if you compile DOSBox yourself. There are ways of externally manipulating a window caption, such as with AutoIt, but DOSBox updates its window caption with changes in …

Re: CONFIG.SYS with DOSBOX

DOSBox has ANSI emulation as part of its DOS emulation, so you don't need to load a driver for that unless you decide to boot real DOS. If X00.SYS is a FOSSIL driver, you can instead use a TSR that is loaded at the command prompt: http://www.digsys.se/Obsolete/ADF.aspx You can boot a hard disk image …

Re: You don´t know Jack 3 Windows 3.x????

FYI, "Unexpected error 21", or "DOS error 21" is a common problem with programs that use Win32s in DOSBox. Setting cputype=486_slow or cputype=pentium_slow in the conf will usually avoid such errors. However, it's not necessarily the only problem in the case of YDKJ3. If the cdrom includes a Win32s …

Re: Space Quest IV CD-ROM audio

in DOS
How about a Win32 version? That way I could make it work with my SQ4 installer. The program will run in the NTVDM of Win32, so I suppose the irony is that you'd want a Win32 version to be able to run it in 64-bit Windows. :dead: Anyway, I'd thought about including an IPS patch as an alternate way …

Space Quest IV CD-ROM audio

in DOS
The PCM audio in the CD-ROM version of SQ4 is plagued with loud clicks/pops that occur seemingly at random. The overall sound quality is not that great, but the clicks are particularly annoying. An example with several clicks is in the intro when the hologram of Vohaul's head appears and speaks to …

Re: Change text color?

Yes, DOSBox emulates the ANSI.SYS driver, and you can change console text color with escape codes just like real DOS. You can also use the 4DOS shell in DOSBox, which provides a COLOR command to change text color, but it doesn't "stick" as well as the escape codes.

Re: PC*Bert: Sound comes and goes

I've so far been unable to reproduce the situation where the sound cuts out on my system except with low cycles. This is using a Win32 build of current source and the official 0.74 Win32 build. Maybe others will report their experience with the game, and then perhaps some common factor can be …
