Forgot to say it's ACE which lacks mixer chip and ultrinit won't provide (and hide, perhaps, by "-?" help key output) mute line-in feature. Tried 2.26, 2.28 and 2.31 ver with same result. Also mixer/ultramix runs but do nothing (readme says about that). I can mute SB line-in (my ACE goes to it). …

Lack of multitasking (ok, in-core by design, fullmetal strong and reliable kind of multitasking, not DesqView-like heresy) is really pain today, even if you had a deal with it when was a child and growd with it and still use it daily.

IIRC there is some kind of console utility for GUS cards which capable to mute card's line-in. Like Inertia Player internal feature but standalone tiny program. Maybe it was special version of ultrinit.exe with additional key, maybe 3rd party program - can't remember. Don't want unplug my Covox …

MOD4Win player has one 'unique' feature. Despite of their WINDOWS nature it can work with some soundcards (GUS in example) in direct manner, with no any WINDOWS audio drivers installed at all. Is there any other software for Win3.x/95 with such capability? Thanks.

Any kind of heatsinks on IC components is a duct tape design for me. However it's ok for heavily heated power supply elements. I can sacrifice as much whole performance as it needed for normal operation of naked ICs even in chassis with no ventilation at all.

I always do at least two independent primary partitions: for DOS 6.22, Win9x, etc. In such case DOS Mode on Win9x partition useful only when i backup OS itself - i just zipyng WINDOWS and 'Program Files' folders with DOSLFN loaded. Quick but not so dirty as it seems.
