Re: FONTS ARE NOT SHARP

The built-in scalers can only work at integer factors, so it's either none or 2x. To change the text mode font in DOSBox you'll have to find a DOS program that does this. There should be a few of them around, but the win32 console is more flexible in the font department, so my advice is to look into …

Re: FONTS ARE NOT SHARP

OK, try windowresolution=original, and either "scaler=none" or "scaler=normal2x forced", depending on how large you want your window. You can try other "2x" scalers to smooth out the fonts while keeping them sharp, but make sure to append "forced" as it is important for text modes.

All that said, I'm probably one of maybe a tiny handful of people who still use DP2E so I'm well aware I may be the only person on this forum who cares. ;) I'd be the last person to urge people away from their old software as long as it still does the job, but have you checked out GrafX2 ? it's a …

Re: DOS Nostalgia youtube channel

heh, somehow "inspired by 8-bit" sounds less phony when it's a mid-'90s title, as opposed to something current. And yeah, I was wondering about those random toilet-flush noises... no way to replace that stuff with silence, I assume? This looks to be just the sort of 'endangered' game that's in …

This won't help you with your DeluxePaint problem... but http://www.fontstruct.com makes it incredibly easy to create pixel fonts in TrueType format. Could make modern software more usable for your purposes, and naturally your fonts will also be directly supported by Allegro, etc. Too bad that …

Scroll bars are annoying to use. It will be better to just show the whole picture with part of it being outside the post so that post width is not affected. (same with enclosed images) But then if it extends past the edge of the screen, there's no way to view it in full (except for saving/new tab/ …

My linked images seem to be cut-off on the right side. Usually I link to the 1024x768 size. On a vaguely related note, I wonder why no one has yet made a free open source version of the first game, now that Jordan Mechner found the code and made it along with all other game assets public a while ago. ...only for the Apple II original. Besides, the name and all other intellectual property …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Only just in the past few days have I actually finally started crawling out of the "Design Hell" the game's been in, and if the new design continues to work out, I'll be back into the swing of making the game by the end of the month. Good! So for the moment, I'm a bit depressed and bummed out. I …

I wonder if it'll have "dumbed down for the Casual crowd" mode, like that POP1 remake? ("the butterfly may help you find the way out!") Seriously though, this is not the kind of game that needs to be remade in 3D - it doesn't stand out from today's games like the original did when it came out. A …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Whatever you decide to review, if it uses 40 columns, please run it in CGA mode... the EGA/VGA character set looks horribly squashed and difficult to read in 40 columns - hated it since I first saw it. ;) (Okay, there are exceptions - I can think of at least one 40-column game that requires VGA …

Well things should take up roughly the same space as now, just arranged differently... 'author' column would more or less replace the huge whitespace on the right, and pagination would be in line with the topic so that column goes too. Even 'replies' and 'views' could be narrowed down a little if …

My suggestion for viewforum - - Author can be in a separate column, like in the old layout. Plenty of room for this with the whitespace, and it won't mess up the thread list. - Keep the pagination, but put it right after the topic title, without a newline and without those fancy boxes. As in: Just …

It is exactly the same one from the original VOGONS. The old logo from that Wayback Machine link - 11,035 bytes Current logo - 13,166 bytes I'm using FF 22.0, and the new logo looks good here (though I can see a very slight difference in color between the two). The new PNG seems to have a few extra …

I like them very much. Could you please also make "onMouseOver" buttons? I think inverting gradient would be enough for that. Or do you think we don't need such a thing? :) They seem larger than the ones that are currently there ? Please contact collector about it. Done and done. (Some are a bit …
