Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX

Carrying over some relevant discussion from http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=268923#268923 Anyone care to guess what's up with Zak McKracken's composite CGA mode? It uses mode 4, but the colors don't make much sense, on any of the machines discussed so far; see attachments for comparison. By …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX

I have most of this already written; it would only have to be slightly optimized and adapted for inclusion in DosBox. But I'm not going to bother if I'm told in advance that it would just end up being the hundredth unofficial build. Well, it's good to know that a "monitor=" config setting could be …

Re: Resolution problem

IMO opengl with 3x scaler has the nicest overall look. Pixels are aliased so they appear to be of the same size. And this also makes the image a little bit smoother, not as razor sharp. That's my preference too. Having a "normal4x" or even "normal5x" scaler would be even nicer for today's …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX

About the "monitor=" config file proposal: I actually really like the idea, and it would certainly be the sensible (and complete) way to do things. That said, I agree with ripsaw that anything like that is very unlikely to be considered for an official release any time soon. So while I'd love to see …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX

Following the idea behind my suggestion for a settings-less approach, the hack would still be used (in mode 6 only); thus no "regression", and no one will be surprised by significantly different colors in KQ1 (or any other game that happens to set that bit). I know you and others won't much like …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX

After thinking about this problem with settings, I believe that some compromises may be necessary in order to get the nice feature of low-res composite output into the next official release of DOSBox. The hard part of this suggestion: let go of the idea of supporting all games perfectly. I'm not …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX?

With regards to the patch. Would it be possible to find some sensible defaults for all those settings ? As I am not fond of adding stuff to the configuration file for the composite video mode. Hue and composite auto/on/off could just stay in the keymapper. The problem is with cgatype and …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX?

So far it works great and held up to my port twiddling. Nice job! The capture video and capture screenshot sections appear missing from the mapper, and when I add them manually to the keymapper file, it just says the following: Can't find matching event for hand_scrshot Can't find matching event …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX?

Right - no idea why that's the game I thought of... it is a rare example of using a non-grey/white color in mode 6, but yes, the color is constant throughout the screen. Jungle Hunt does change the palette for the height of the status bar, but not for color-blending purposes (there are no separate …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX?

I would like to ask, if some games using mode 4/5, but with changes on background color (color 0) to something else than black, usually Light-Blue (like upper half of game: Frogger ). Would changing the color-0 can also affect color-artifacting on composite monitor? Yes, see Pitstop II: http://www. …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX?

I haven't seen a capture of the PCjr in 640x200 mode, so those colors might be completely off. According to Servo's earlier post, 640x200 on a PCjr should be the same as new CGA with no offset (though that was from memory, so some verification would be helpful if that is to go on WP). About those …

Re: DOSBox Feature Request Thread

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I'm an old time programmer. Replaced my XP system with a Dell windows 7 laptop, and was disapointed to find that I couldn't run programs that I still support. Downloaded DOSbox and so far I'm pretty well pleased; it's sort of like running my 1981 PC again. (Yeah, I'm …

Re: Where is game progress saved in D-Fend Reloaded?

the location, file name, and file type of saved games depends entirely on the game in question, not on D-Fend Reloaded. Typically they are stored in the same path that the game was installed to, but not always. First you need to know where the game itself is - DFR likes to have its games in a " …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX?

[Thread moved to DOSBox Development Section as suggested] maybe this post could be split to a new thread in the patches section? - http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=267317&highlight=#267317 Ok, here's a few captures with palette 0 low intensity. Great - thanks for these. Here's what it looks …
