Re: Best CGA & Hercules monochrome games

The author of SIMCGA is still around on the VCFED forums, but IIRC neither he nor Sydex hold the copyright any longer, so while I might be wrong I doubt he could help. Same story as with Teledisk/Anadisk. Also I see no theoretical reason why this couldn't be done using a modern free assembler like …

Re: Happy 40th IBM PC

For the same occasion... anyone had a look at the results of PCjam? https://pcjam.gitlab.io/ Not all of these are new, but there's some neat stuff in there - although at least three of these don't quite run properly (or at all) on the original hardware. 😉

If 32-bit is dead, it's in good company. The internet is pretty thoroughly deceased, too, but we still keep on using it. 😉

Seeing exactly zero changes/additions that would make a meaningful difference when using the OS on an actual PC. Not very surprising, since that hasn't been anywhere near their list of priorities for over a decade. Why, it looks like they barely even bothered to make it substantially *worse* on PCs …

Re: Dominus: A New Font for DOS

Nice work! Let me know if I could add it to the collection at https://github.com/viler-int10h/vga-text-mode-fonts 😉 (Also, if you often edit fonts under DOS, feel free to check out my font editor for some neat features).

Re: My DosBox tools

Hi Dave, Good to see the new site. Appreciate the update - lots of these tiny utils will be very useful, not only in DOSBox (or DOS-on-Win64) but for my memory-limited XT as well. And lest I forget, thanks for writing ImageDisk. That just might be your most popular program as of late, but it's a …

Re: FastDoom. A new Doom port for DOS, optimized to be as fast as possible for 386/486 personal computers!

CGA doesn't have a genuine monochrome mode, Mode 5 still outputs colors when connected to a RGBI monitor (which it's what I'm currently developing for). Mode 6 is genuinely monochrome on RGBI, you'll just have to use pattern dithering. If you pretend that it's mode 4 or 5 (i.e. you write the exact …

On top of that, they circumvent the product placement algorithms by farming with teams of people generating fake reviews and returns to push their products to the top and get competitors banned. Check out this short documentary: https://youtu.be/vOj-tRTbFfY Judging by the ridiculous amounts of …

If nobody complains, nothing is likely to ever change . Mandating a distinguishing mark on cables based on functionality would put to rest 95% of my gripes (and likely also most of those expressed by other people) . This. I don't really get the type of comment that goes "you may not like it, but …

Re: 8" diskette drives on IBM PC

in Milliways
Weren't there plenty of third-party 8" external drives for the IBM PC back when it was new? Data exchange, and all that. Funnily enough, SCP's original 86-DOS supported 8" disks before Microsoft ported it for IBM, so I'd be surprised if it's DOS itself which makes the job difficult.

https://a7100-emulation.gitlab.io/html/news.html wow, that's cool ! and from the screenshots - gfx power :) ... it's itching in the fingers to do some demo coding :) I'll be sure to keep an eye open for the upcoming 7100KMH, then :) That video board sure has nice mono graphics at 640x400 in 4 …
