Re: Guess the game!!

in Milliways
Yep! That's the one... 1x TEH PRIZE to RadioPoultry. This is actually a decent game technically, especially as it was written by a single person, but in terms of playability it fails hard... stupid difficulty curve, artificially made 'challenging' by leaving the player stuck with zero clues on what …

Re: Another one bytes the dust (archive.org)

I think infinite scroll has it's place - we're finally moving away from copying print media layouts and it's about bloody time. Yeah - because copying the "medieval rolled-up parchment on a stick" layout is infinitely better, and not a regression at all. This style of UI may be a nice shiny …

Yes, that's it! Did you ever find this item by yourself or did google help you? :) heh - I had no idea that it existed, but after a while of trying to think "swamps" this game popped into my head, so I searched for "The Horde" "magic flute" and ended up here . ;) Okay, next one - this is probably …

Since nobody else ventures a guess, the graphical style reminds me of Armaëth: The Lost Kingdom, but I'm pretty sure that's not it...

Re: BIOS font legal status

Well, my 8x12 font is now usable as a TSR (for DOSBox or real VGA), thanks to ripsaw's code. At 640x480, this gives you 40 rows of text, and scales nicely with aspect correction. Sticking this here for download, in case anyone finds it useful. Filename dosbox_80x40.png File size 9.6 KiB Views 3012 …

Re: vinyl making a comeback?

And the grade of vinyl they use is much better than what was used in the past. Sound quality on the vinyl they use today is much better. Maybe in theory. In practice, a lot of labels are cheap and just source the vinyl master from the material that's already mastered for CD, as mentioned above, …

Re: Guess the game!!

I found it! "Main Break", also by Soleau! Wow, did I have to dig for it. Okay, that counts, although to be more precise it's actually 'Up the Wall' aka 'UpWall', by --*drum roll*-- William Soleau. Still 'Main Break' is a good enough answer, because these two games are too damn similar to tell apart …

Re: Guess the game!!

No 😀 Another hint: this game doesn't go higher than CGA ( = the screenshot really is representative). C'mon, you guys aren't that far off...

Re: Guess the game!!

Awww, nobody? 🙁 I'll give it a couple of days and try something easier if there's still no winner... Hint: it was written by a quite prolific shareware author, who later made a couple of other games based on the same (general) idea.

Forgot about this one - another "mystery code" game Plus: Filename gwbasic_005.png File size 1.65 KiB Views 346 views On the other hand, IBM's own game 'Target' (comes with one of the first versions of the BASIC Compiler) doesn't use the 'IBM-style' title screen at all...
