Thanks, I also see on cpu-world: Cyrix GXm processors were manufactured in 320-pin ceramic PGA package and 352-ball BGA package. Although the GXm microprocessors in ceramic PGA package fit into socket 7, they have completely different pinout and they do not work in that socket.

CT2760 is real OPL3. Or mine was anyhow, I don't know if there were variants. The Yamaha 724 cards also give real OPL3 in a PCI form factor, and some at least have XG MIDI built in.

Is there likely to be any cure for a DVD drive that ejects almost as soon as the tray goes in, almost always. I've had the drive for c. 15 years, it started playing up like this recently. Anything I can do, or just chuck it?

Have you tried using noise removal in audacity. Was pretty good in cleaning up some of my noisy recordings. Not the same noise problem, but it might help.

I guess the question is: how many pre-P2 machines are out there running Debian and needing the latest version, and does that seem worth the effort. But it seems as though Debian will still run on older hardware that Windows 8 and onwards? Still a shame though.

I used to use AbilityFTP and CrushFTP [though that may have been on an old Mac to transfer files to Windows os some such]. Can't recall a lot about Ability except I think I actually bought a licence so it must have seemed pretty good.
